Why yes I do. They afford a company to continue conducting business within our borders. Had those jobs left, do the numbers and tell me how awesome it sounds. Assume 1000 jobs at 60k/yr avg salary with 10mil in tax relieve spread across 10 years. Given a 12% tax bracket on personal income taxes, $7200 per person, per annum. Or 7.2mil per year. Or 72mil over 10 years.

Alternatively we could increase taxes on the middle class to subsidize unemployment benefits at $1400/month until the maximum benefit is reached, then just write those people off out of the "unemployment" statistics.

Get a clue. Think for yourself instead of regurgitating the crap you hear on CNN.

Great! You understand something of the economy! Yeah! Carrier got a special 7 million dollar bonus from the tax payers of Indiana for saving 730 jobs, (not 1000). What about the rest of the companies that are struggling? Are Donald Trump and Mike Pence going to "bail out" every company that threatens to open plants abroad, with local tax payer dollars, or just the ones that kissed their ass during the campaign? What kind of policy is this?

I have a small manufacturing business, and I get the bulk of my basic supplies from China. Is Donald Trump going to punish me, by charging me 30% more, in tariffs, for supplies that I can't even get in the US? How does that help the economy?

Round numbers were used for the sake of simplicity. If you want to get technical, consider the local businesses in town who will see more business because those 700 jobs are still around. The service industry for instance, where not onlythe business but also the waitresses and waiters seeing more customers and earning more in tips.

A lot of people are critical of policies that dont even exist yet from a president elect who hasnt even had a chance to take office and foster this econony. I trust Trump and Pence to do more for small businesses than the current administration. I dont recall soecifically a tarrif on imported goods being used to strongarm businesses to source raw materials locally. AFAIK, they are going after multi-national businesses opening facilities in other countries for cheap labor, taking jobs directly from americans.

Excuse my spelling. On a conf callw screenshares -- using phone to read ats while these people bore me. I own my own business as well but i do software development. You think manufacturing sector is bad? I pray they shut down this h1b visa crap. 14 million US jobs are outsourced to india for backoffice functions (ie software dev, support, dba etc) for an average of 470k rupees / year ($3.30usd/hr). Big businesses claim their isnt enough talent but reality is small developers like myself cannot compete with ultra cheap labor and keep up with the cost of compliance testing for new regulations.

...I say they should kill two birds with one stone; Create industry specific direct-to-hire educational programs that businesses can sponsor to hire employees within the country and let the business fight with educators over the cost of tuition.

Mike Pence is the current Governor if Indiana. It was Mike Pence, and only Mike Pence who was able to broker the deal with Carrier. Trump had no authority whatsoever. The Carrier deal was a sweetheart payback/publicity stunt that benefited one small American community in Indiana.

This Carrier stunt is no measure for what to expect for the American manufacturing community from the Trump administration.

Donald Trump certainly adds to the joy and gaiety of politics, but that doesn't mean that he's not capable of some entirely crackpot economic ideas. One example? What he's just told the New York Times he wants to try: a 45% tax on all imports from China. This is not just abject populism, but also somewhere between foolish and insane as a piece of economic policy.

OUCH! I'll have to reconstruction my whole sales demographic, because my current buyers won't pay 45% more for my product unless the quality goes up 45%. Switch from nylon to silk? And up, up, up goes the prices, once again!
