Black Lives Matter Activist Hit With Restraining Order From L.A. Police Commissioner

Matt Johnson Pres of the LA police commission filed a temp restraining order against BLM-LA for stalking and violent threats, feared for his safety and his family. BLM activist Trevor Gerard denies the allegations.

The president of the Los Angeles Police Commission has filed a request for a temporary restraining order against a prominent member of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles, alleging a pattern of stalking and violent threats. According to the order, the commission president feared for his life and the safety of his family.

The Black Lives Matter activist, Trevor Gerard, denies the allegations, which he says distort the truth and are politically motivated.

Johnson who has been commissioner since 2015 said Gerard stalked him at home and at work. Gerald has allegedly made threats at board meetings and made gratuitous references to his children.

Matt M. Johnson, who's been police commission president since September 2015, alleges in the complaint that Gerard stalked him at his home and at the private law office where he works, angrily demanding to speak with him. Johnson also alleges that Gerard mouthed violent threats to Johnson from the audience at board meetings and made threatening statements, including “a gratuitous reference” to Johnson’s children.

Gerard said the commissioner has taken statements out of context in retaliation for BLM-LA confrontational style of activism.
Commissioner Johnson got his restraining order one day after the BLM staged a demonstration at Johnson's home. And BLM even gained entry onto the law firm where Johnson works.
The story says that Gerard feels that the people that sit on the board are a rubber stamp for the violence that the LAPD has been engaging in. He was briefly taken into custody for trespassing and released, sounds like the investigation is on going.

Gerard, 35, says the commission president deliberately took statements and actions of his out of context in retaliation for Black Lives Matter L.A.'s confrontational style of activism. “I never told him that he should be afraid of me,” Gerard tells L.A. Weekly. “I never told him to meet me outside. I never threatened him with any kind of physical violence. ”

The City Attorney's Office filed for the restraining order on Johnson's behalf on Dec. 19, one day after a local coalition of activists, including members of Black Lives Matter L.A., staged a demonstration outside Johnson’s private residence in Sherman Oaks. Two days before the restraining order was filed, on Dec. 17, the activists gained entry to the entertainment law firm in Century City where Johnson is managing partner.

Wow going to the mans house and he doesn't consider that a threat. Any one with half a brain knows the only reason they showed up at his door was a threat. They were showing him they knew were he lived trying to convey that as anything other than a threat is silly.

Agreed, from the story he is changing the methods of interacting with the public. He is a cheerleader for less than lethal, de-escelation and sharing info on shootings with the public.
Seems like Johnson is a reformer, no good dead goes unpunished.

The whole idea of protest, of course, is to make people feel uncomfortable.

Then again, everyone is in their right to defend themselves using whatever tactic and tools they have available.

The friction created by this sparing and posturing illuminates the feeling of harassment experienced by one side, so that the other side gets some idea of what it's like to be sitting in the protesters shoes.

Showing up at some ones house with protestors is illuminating how?

Is the commissioner doing the harassing? If you read the story he is actually a reformer.

You assume that there is harassment going on. And you also assume that showing up in force to someones home is giving the homeowner an illuminating experience.

Showing up at someone's home to protest is harassment.

Anything that "disturbs the peace of mind" of individuals, as they go about their daily lives is harassment.

People ought to be able to live their lives without these intrusions into their peaceful activities.

The New Black Panthers had a rally here in Milwaukee. Armed. Cops show up, as they didn't know there was a "protest," see someone mishandling a firearm - confront individual, has warrant, take him in. Panthers cry brutality because a 12 year old got hit in the mouth somehow during altercation. They also cry racism because cops took man with warrant (the audacity!)

I am so very black-fatigued. Speaking of harassment, it's way too stressful to live where you get begged off of at every stoplight, gas station, pharmacy and bus stop. Then turn on the news and see all the armed robberies, murders, and carjackings. One out of ten instances are not black. When it comes to the thump cars outside the house, it jumps to 100 percent black (well, I do live in an all-black hood so...)

I really need to move further north to the Northwoods or south to Arkansas for my mental health. Seriously.

It's harassment to those left alive who identify with the individual that was shot.

That's why they come out and protest.

They don't feel its safe to walk the streets, when people like them are treated like target practice.

Good for him, and I hope that more people affected by BLM tactics start doing the same.

While many BLM activists are decent people with a sincere concern, there are just enough who are irrational instigators prone to violence and destruction to give the group a bad name and render anything good about them null and void. If this Gerard fellow is of the latter type of activist (and it sounds like he is...or is at least somewhere between the two extremes), then this is fully warranted.

Let a group show up at my house to protest what I do as my profession--I'd be concerned that I'd do more than just file a restraining order. At the very least, I'd jump on my riding lawnmower and fling grass clippings on them. I'm sure someone would press charges for me assaulting them at that point, though. Maybe I'd get my pressure washer out and start spraying off the sidewalk...or just not be passive aggressive and just start cleaning my firearms in the window while staring at them...in my underwear...and nipple clamps.
