Intel panel nixes briefing on alleged Russian interference in US election after resistance

The House Intelligence Committee abruptly canceled a briefing set for Thursday on alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election, after intelligence agencies refused to provide representatives for the session, Fox News is told.

Amid concerns about reports that conflict with details previously provided to the committee, Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., had requested a closed, classified briefing Thursday for committee Republican and Democratic members from the FBI, CIA, Office of the Director of National Intelligence and National Security Agency.

But Fox News is told the agencies refused to provide briefers, which is unusual given the panel is the most-senior committee with jurisdiction.

So the intelligence committee wanted a briefing on the claims Russia is involved given the accusations being made by the intelligence agencies. The committee scheduled the hearing and low and behold the intel community refused to provide anyone to brief the committee.

What is the intel agencies hiding?

"It is unacceptable that the Intelligence Community directors would not fulfill the House Intelligence Committee’s request to be briefed tomorrow on the cyber-attacks that occurred during the presidential campaign," Nunes said in a statement. "The Committee is deeply concerned that intransigence in sharing intelligence with Congress can enable the manipulation of intelligence for political purposes."

This has now reached the absurd stage in terms of segments of this administration / democratic party pushing a point while refusing to support it. The intel community is ok briefing the electors but not the intelligence committee's in Congress.

How does that make sense?

The intel committees have the required security clearance to hear the info and the briefing would have been a closed hearing. The "take our word for it" approach wont work in this case.

Maybe the intelligence community doesn't want to get caught in this lie, like they were with Iraq chemical weapons accusations?

Or, they're saving the briefing for the Electors. Gotta have their priorities in proper order, you know.

Perhaps they are sick and tired of the Politicians blaming Russia when they know it was an inside job.

There does seem to be a background war between intel agencies and their stools in Congress.

I think we have to wait for the inauguration before much can be done.

One group is in power, the adversaries can't do much until the shift of power happens.

Time will tell.

From what I can tell the information about the Russian hacking was disinformation leaked to the public to cover for what really happened which is they were involved with the leaks of the emails and documents that wikileaks released.

The hacks and document leaks were not done by the Russians. It was done within the intelligence community. The FBI, NSA, and CIA were involved. They spread the disinformation it was the Russians to have the useful idiots look elsewhere. Even Julian Assange said they got it from insiders in the government and not the Russians.

ETA: The intelligence community released the disinfo about the Russians so that people would look at the Russians. It does 2 things. First it's so no one goes looking too deep into the Washington insiders.

Second, the CIA was involved in starting the civil war in Syria. They have a problem with Russia and always have. The cold war ending did not change the CIA's view of Russia.

The Russian blame works in their favor by getting the country and Washington politicians behind their side on the Russians. There are those that believe they can win a war with Russia and believe they can win a nuclear war with Russia. Sad as that is, it fits their agenda. We are or at least have been in a proxy war with Russia in Syria.

To me, it sounds more like the intelligence agencies don't have anything to report.

Now Congress can subpoena the CIA to appear in a Congressional hearing. AS with all else though , they will just plead the 5th

Like I keep saying, the Russia "affair" was not Russia at all, all the crap about the DNC hacking and all the mess been created has originated from within our own borders.

The interesting thing is that many Americans are more intelligent that the intelligence agencies themselves and can smell the rat and the lies.

Is nothing to see here, just another attempt to a coup, I am sure that this same crap happen before lately people are not just falling for it and are asking more questions that just reacting to the news as a fact.

Yes the briefing was scheduled for in the morning. Unfortunately no one has the time to brief.

No the electors don't have the clearance. It's hard to tell at this point what is going to be shown to them if anything.

I still say John Brennan is at the helm in this sanfu.

Those "electors" are nobody's, they don't have security clearance for knowing who the bathroom attendant is at the WH, let alone seeing top CIA/NIA intel.

I would imagine, with the electoral college set to vote in a few days, that we will see more outrageous claims in an effort to steal the election for Clinton.

I think there should be an investigation into the effort change the outcome of the election by those on the left.

Hey, so Putin isn't the greatest guy in the world ok? But let's not overlook the crap that we have been involved in the last 20 years or more. 3 or 4 failed attempts at nation building / regime changes. Absolute humanitarian disasters.
I find it crazy that the Leftists completely disregard the content of the emails, while trying to lay blame on who the messenger was. If they were not involved in the underhanded tricks that the emails entailed, they might not be in this mess that they caused. Hypocrites.

And I do think that after Jan 20, there will be a major push for investigations into this debacle.
