Honestly it is a rage, and certain celebrities have premoted a "gluten free lifestyle". I've had a couple of celiac friends, so I'm aware of their
needs. There is also a Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) condition, with gastric issues. So when most "gluten free" people who are not celiac claim
they have issues they think they are gluten sensitive. Usually without a diagnosis, and based off the unproven symptoms (yes I stole that from
Wikipedia, I can never remember all the claims) such as: headache, migraine,
"foggy mind", fatigue, fibromyalgia, joint and muscle pain, leg or arm numbness, tingling of the extremities, dermatitis (eczema or skin rash), atopic
disorders such as asthma, rhinitis, other allergies, depression, anxiety, iron-deficiency anemia, folate deficiency, or autoimmune diseases.
Even mental disorders are said to be caused by this sensitivity: schizophrenia, eating disorders, autism, peripheral neuropathy, ataxia, and
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Generally I nod and smile. But as a scientist I often want to Gibbs slap them.
