Don Southerland is retired FBI forensic accountant, look at the pic above, and I don't think you want this guy looking into anything that you have done.

So Don looked into the Texas public schools, he knows what he is doing. So he did his digging and found some real problems. It's for the children is the main way the schools rape the property owners.

A retired FBI agent saw The Watchdog's recent report on school board members' group think mentality and a big reason for that — undue influence of the Texas Association of School Boards.

My reporting touched a nerve for Don Southerland Jr., the former G-man. The Plano man contacted me.

He spent the last four years conducting forensic accounting investigations in troubled Texas public school districts. Don is also a certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner.

Don found group think, and corruption and this leads to high property tax bills. He said that the superintendents build buildings put their name on them and build empires. I's for the children is the worn out battle cry of these flaccid leaders.

Groupthink weaknesses and poor training lead to leadership failures and ultimately to corruption, the investigator says.

Summary of his findings in those four districts: "Numerous programs were fraudulent. School boards were incompetent. Superintendents were corrupt."

Texas ISDs are little empires responsible for most of your property tax bill. They are run as monarchies by kings (superintendents) and their top servants (school boards). The problem is it's supposed to be the other way around.

@ OP - "it's for the children" is a tired old refrain. Then again, this is the state that gave us Friday Night Lights. I know, personally, a guy that coached in both Texas and Florida high school football and if his stories are anything to go by, none of this remotely surprises me.

I read the article. The article has 'watchdog report' as a link, but it only leads to another article from the same newspaper. Some are saying the Texas Association of School Boards has too much influence on school boards.
That there is an 'adults come first groupthink'.

The Texas Association of School Boards disagrees and the newspaper seems to dismiss that. I found the newspaper article slanted and not very easy to understand.

Of course the school boards disagree. They are the ones under the microscope. I hope this story doesn't disappear into the work of "fake" news.

Waling into our local schools I see atriums in;aid brick and very expensive add ons. Is this helping the kids learn any better?

It is out of control, in Michigan the average student compensation is 10,000 to 13,000 depending on what story you believe. I don't see where the $ is going. Of course I am on the outside of this running my big mouth. But if each class has 30 student, that is a bunch of $$$$$$.

I shared this story locally, and people are taking a look at it and sharing too. It provides a template for looking into local affairs, which here include all kinds of favoritism and nepotism.
