Nope, .....I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone because of profiling.

Me Again....how dare you insult the "Religion-of-Peace"!!!

Why we all know the Muslims are fully intergrated in western society and totally harmless. Perhaps you need additional Diversity Training to bring you up to speed with current events in our soft, weak society.

Seriously, I feel like America is a sheep waiting to get hit again...our southern borders are wide open , our Islamic "friends" enjoy ACLU protection and Liberalism has become a death-cult that hates our president more than Al Queada. I wonder who is next on that hit list you posted here Me Again?
-Houston, Texas?
-San Diego, California?
-San Antonio, Texas?
-Omaha, Nebraska?

Who's next on that list?

Statistics can be decieving. Example: Carrots cause cancer. After all, 99% of everyone who has cancer has eaten them.

The Israeli / Palestine situation was created after WWII. All of your examples are after WWII. Any correlation? The muslim world has been asked to take a back seat to fisrt world countrys including Israel. They have been humiliated, murdered in the name of stopping terrorism, disarmed, and in some cases their borders arent considered soveriegn. ( Palestine ).

Now if an Israeli gunship came in and bombed your wife and children, might you be a christian male militant with a hard on for destruction?

Walk a day or two in their shoes. Understand generations of oppressions and war, and know that the soolution of peace is going to be slow and methodical with both sides testing trust along the way. Israel has taken a massive step in not targeting militants, and I personally beleive the piece process is underway. All of us together can created piece. Profiling works when your in control, and it created Christian Male militants when your not.

This is still America. Red, Yellow, Black and white. And remember....the constitution..We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal.

Any questions?

Smile. Muslims and Christians have gotten along for centurys. This is a temporary infection. Lets get rid of Bin Bonehead. Bounty 1 Billion.

As the war on terrorism draws to a close, whenever that is (probably at least 50 years from now; terrorism may never be completely defeated, but it can be kept to a bare minimum, and on small scales only) the Islamic extremists will likely get at least one more good attack off in the U.S. However, it will be another city than New York, NY, and will use another method of delivery than planes. I'm thinking that the next big attack will either be by boat or truck, and will probably hit either Houston, TX or Los Angeles, CA. Whereas New York was the financial center of the country, and Washington was the government center of the country, Houston is the energy center of the country, and Los Angeles is the media/cultrual center of the country. All tempting targets indeed.

So you pick out crimes commited by muslim male extremsists of a certain age, and then figure that, because they're all commited by muslim male extremists of a certain age, that you've discovered an authentic pattern?

Although his method of proving it here is questionable, his point is not. There must be a tolerable level of profiling allowed. Now of course you cannot go on profiles alone, but using a profile to focus or concentrate a portion of effort is just plain smart. To overlook a person who meets a profile to a T can be dangerous.

Ill try to use an analogy here:

I grew up on the water. I have been a sport and professional fisherman in my lifetime. I am also a certified diver, so I know of what I speak.

Sharks live in the ocean. Every day millions people swim among the sharks, they just don’t see them. Sharks swim right next to humans in every ocean in the world, every day. On very, very rare occasions, a shark attacks and eats person. So rare of an event that you couldn’t calculate the odds. This is all fact. Now, if you were about to enter the water and spotted a shark right there in front of you, would you enter the water? No? Why? Overwhelming statistics show that the odds of that shark attacking you is so amazingly small that its virtually impossible. But you still wont enter the water. Well that is irational profiling.

Now, I also wouldn’t jump right into the water while looking at a shark in the eye. But it’s the profile of a shark you used to make that decision. Even though the odds of that shark touching you are basically non existent.

I used this next example in another thread here in the past, but ill use it again: A southern police dept. was pulling over all cars that sported a certain radio stations bumper stickers on them. They had learned over time that most stops of this nature yielded an arrest. The actuall arrest rate was nearly 70%. They used this profile very successfully. In the end it was ruled unlawful and the practice was stopped. But the cold hard fact is that the profile was dead on and worked.

My point of my reply here is that profiles are good if used responsibly. I think the risk of not using a profile is greater than the risk of using them against innocent people. In the end, if the system is working, the innocents among them will be cleared and can go about their business. But in a time like today, where women and kids are used as suicide bombers and all rules seem to be thrown out the window, we cant afford to be too politically correct. Id rather hurt some innocent peoples feelings or pride in order to stop people from dying than the other way around. Profiling Male, Muslims of a certain age is not an irresponsible practice. Actual history has shown us that.

Exactly.

We could play the same game with "Religious Fanatics In The US" or "KKK Members Who Killed Innocent American Children" or "White Supremacist Links To International Terrorist Organizations" and link with newspaper stories to prove our points.

I could not agree more. Doing police work is tough enough without having your best weapon, common sense, prohibited. People that specialize in locating individuals who commit crimes soon develop a certain knowledge that many of these people come from certain demographics. Lets say a serial killer for instance has been most likely a white middle aged male. Common sense tells us this should be the most likely place, but not exclusively, to begin.

Same with gang violence. There is a certain demographic that frequent certain places and exibit certain behaviors that are most likely to be involved or have been shown to have been the predominant offenders.

For the police and the security forces, its not a race or religion issue. Its a numbers game combined with the knowledge obtained from experience.

Muslim males aren't and should not be the only sector of the population singled out for airline screenings. As we saw in OK City, white male militants in their teens early 20s are just as likely to work with them. Its not a defining factor by any means and I know that an old woman isn't likely to blow up a plane but with the use of today's cosmetics, just about anyone could fool someone into thinking they're older or even a female.

If Robin Williams could become Mrs. Doubtfire through a little hollywood magic, whos to say someone else with a more dyer agenda could not. Lets hope they never figure that one out.

Are there any other religions that promise you eternal life in heaven with 27 virgins if you kill other infidals (women or children is okay) by strapping some bombs to yourself and then blowing yourself up on a crowded city bus or in the marketplace at rush hour???? All of the suspects in these types of cases are Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. They are brainwashed by their cult.

I suspect that, when the public looks back, at some point in a relatively removed future, to the america of the here and now, that they will think primarily of california, and think that most americans think and act as californians are usually portrayed as thinking and acting.

Its like, think of america in the prohibition period. You probably think of gangsters and flappers in chicago, rather than country bumpkins in idaho and whatnot. Or even more remotely, think of the classical world, most people think of marble colums and togas, even tho the majority of people had nothing to do with that culture.

I agree for our current period. However, statistics from the Census dept predict a very significant shift if you look at the fields on numbers of popluation with education and the long range projections. Its actually being said (in some unofficial circles) that unless California addresses its migrant population's educational needs, it will become the "Appalachias of the 21st century" Meaning that as education is improving at the highest rate in the SouthEast and the Lowest rate in the Southwest. California and some other states out there are likely to revert to the condition in which we found most of Central Aappalachia thoughout the 20th century.

Its an alarming dynamic that has been voiced at the last 2 annual census data users groups I've attended by the top echelon in the field.

Interesting, and in a sense ironic, sincecalifornia was originally populated by an internal US migration that started largely in the appalachians.

I suspect that the multi-billion dollar investment in biotechnology will help drawn in lots of good researchers in that and other allied fields, tho, if that helps or adds to the problem I suppose isn't so obvious. If it encourages education within california, that'd help, if it (more likely) encourages researchers educated in other parts of the country to work in california, then people will be buffered from the ill effects of poor education, at least to the point of not wanting to do anythign about it.

One could possibly aruge that the same happened in the US as a whole, which has a generally poor educational sytem (tho its not federalized so it varies greatly), and has a good dependence on drawing foreign educated researchers.
