The Saga Continues: Ahead of Austrian Election, EU fears Brexit-style referendum

I saw this one come through this morning. I had posted yesterday about French President Francois Hollande announcing he will not seek re-election, paving the way for conservative candidate Marine Le Pen to take his job.

It now seems that Austria is on the verge of both it's own "Trump-effect" and "Brexit" with the potential election of Conservative/Populist/Nationalist candidate Norbert Hofer leading in the polls against primary rival Independent candidate Alexander Van der Bellen ahead of this Sunday's re-run Presidential Election.

Jean-Claude Juncker and the EU are understandably nervous.

Jean-Claude Juncker has urged EU leaders not to hold referendums on their membership of the bloc because he fears their voters will also choose to leave.

The European Commission president said giving people a vote would be 'unwise' as they could seek to replicate Brexit.

His remarks come as one of the contenders to become Austrian president has threatened to hold a referendum if the EU integrates further.

Norbert Hofer, who will become Europe's first far-right head of state since the Second World War if elected on Sunday, has promised a ballot if the EU becomes more centralised following Brexit.

Asked about the Freedom Party candidate's pledge, Mr Juncker told Euronews: 'We can't deny or take away the people of Europe's right to express their views. 'Regarding referenda on EU membership, I think it is not wise to organise this kind of debate, not only because I might be concerned about the final result but because this will pile more controversy onto the huge number already present at the heart of the EU

No Mr. Juncker, it is very wise to organize this kind of debate, because then people will be able to think critically rather than being forced to accept a single viewpoint.

Are we seeing a conservative spring happening globally?

Certainly looks that way. I have been using the term "Conservative Cascade" because I believe that once started the changes/overthrows will happen harder and faster as time goes on.

People are waking up and realizing that they've been sold a bill of goods that really isn't in their best interests. They are beginning to finally see through the lies spun by their respective power brokers. These power brokers amass incredible wealth for themselves under the guise of "serving the people" and believe they are immune from accountability.

If things keep going this way we could see the EU essentially dissolve by 2020. These are incredible times we're living in.

Its hard enough for two people to live together in harmony ....

Or four people flat sharing .....

Never mind trying to have 27 diverse nations being able to share equally.


The EU has squeezed them till the pips squeaked, and the inevitable is

happening .... I'm only surprised its taken so long!
