Breaking: French President Hollande will not seek Reelection

Just saw this come through. This is a very interesting development considering the ground-swell of support for Marine Le Pen. This is one obstacle removed for her.

I can only hope that the "Revolution of the Right" continues and we see a conservative cascade across the Euro-zone!

Mr. Hollande suggested on Thursday that he did not want to endanger the fortunes of his associates on the left, saying that he was aware of the “risks” that his candidacy would pose if few people within his party rallied around him. “As a Socialist, because that is my life’s commitment, I cannot accept, I cannot come to terms with the dispersion of the left, with its splitting up,” Mr. Hollande said. “Because that would remove all hope of winning in the face of conservatism, and, worse yet, of extremism.”

I thought so too, so I read up on Marine. While far right, she is much softer than her father. She does not appear to be racist or antisemitic. She expelled her father from the party for his comments on the Holocaust.

She does not seem all that different, or more extreme, than most right-wing politicians in the United States. But I do not agree with all of her political ideas.

It's not fair to judge her based on her family. By all accounts she is much more moderate than her father.

Hollande is a complete failure. His move is designed to annoint François Fillon in an effort to defeat Marine Le Pen.

In the past this sort of move has worked, but this time I think the upward rising star belongs to Marine Le Pen.

I will again draw your attention to the fact that Jean Marie is no longer the leader and no longer in the party. His own daughter kicked him out for his denial of the Holocaust. Marine does not at all deny the Holocaust

The elder Le Pen was kicked out of the party after quipping that the Holocaust was merely a minor “detail in the history of World War II.”

Marine Le Pen voiced her strong opposition to her father’s Holocaust denial, arguing that the genocide marked “the height of barbarism.”

I am far from an extreme right winger, but you are lying or misinformed, and that is something that is dangerous when it comes to politics. Haven't we had enough of politicians throwing insults and half-truths at each other, trying to stir up their followers?

Now, Marine Le Pen does have some ideas that are disagreeable to many people, including me, but Holocaust denial is not one of them.
