The imagery of the party included many Daliesque motifs, because Dali was very much en vogue at the time (besides, it wasn't called the "surrealist" ball for nothing); and yes, surrealist imagery may appear "weird" because it is, well, surrealist.
There was also no reason for it to be secretive. It was a party, one of many those people used to throw in those days. It was decadent, yes (I have it on good authority), but no more so than any frat party, only with considerably more class (and money, of course).
I am no fan of the Rothschilds myself, but not everything has to be a conspiracy against the 99 %; and it isn't.

There's a theory regarding Kubrick and Eyes Wide Shut refering to some of the things that happen at this kind of parties... He knew more than he could tell, so he gave hints through the movies.

Shockingly, such surrealist parties still happen today!

I once helped out on a soundtrack for Dali's film "Un Chien Andalou" that was a hit in Germany in the 90's, creepy music for a creepy film. I like a good party, even have my own fancy dress stuff, went to Horror parties with headless dummies at the table etc, but the theme was 'horror' so kind of expected.
But i think having a smashed up baby doll on the table would not be good for my appetite.

Koln was terribly decadent, i think all the elites cherish their decadence & like to flaunt it now & then.

The ultimate decadence, mistreating children, murder etc, is never too far away once you are in these circles i reckon.
It seems to me that christianity gets peddled to the peeps, while the elites embrace satanism.
I'm not fond of either, both have led to immense suffering....
