"To Live Is To Die" by Metallica takes me on a journey, and it seems to tell an ineffable story. I can hear the story in the music, but I couldn't tell you much about the plot. I don't think that's surprising when you consider that it was probably meant to be that way. It is a tribute to Clifford Lee Burton and his family.

I find "Whitewash" by Buckethead to be heavenly.

Buckethead's a beast, although I prefer Popeyes's over KFC, this version of Soothsayer is unreal...

And I wouldn't be showin my avatar any respect if I didn't throw this one in there...

buckethead is choice. all his stuff is nice.

hands down my favorite instrumental album is hot rats by frank zappa.
my favorite track of all time is on that album. the gumbo variations but is is more jazz fusion than full on rock.

if you have not heard willie the pimp from that album check it out. there are about 45 seconds of vocals at the start but thats it.
i will post a couple songs.

transylvania boogie

black napkins

I don't know if they're considered rock enough for this thread, but I've always been partial to Rush's instrumentals.

YYZ, La Villa Strangiato and the Overture to 2112.

I also enjoy some Joe Santriani.

I also like Metallica's instrumentals.

I'm also going to post a great Bluegrass instrumental (but it's very rockish).

AiC - Whale and Wasp

I miss Alice in Chains

This song is so good I forget it is an instrumental.

Yes, Mood For a Day was the very first song I ever learned how to play.

As a guitar player, I learned by copying the Ventures. That is where I learned some rock and roll (I know, E7 is sooo rock, right?). But that was a gateway drug to other bands and sounds. It took me out the "I want to play classical guitar" thought process. It all traces back to Walk Don't Run for me. There are so many good instrumentals out there. Surprised that we are not page 7 by now!
