BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A U.S. Marine helicopter transporting troops crashed Wednesday in the desert of western Iraq, killing 31 people, American military officials said. It was the deadliest crash of a U.S. military helicopter in Iraq.
The U.S. military has lost at least 33 helicopters since the start of the war, including at least 20 brought down by hostile fire, according to a study by the Brookings Institution.

I don’t know where the number of casualties as 31 comes from when this morning I swore I heard on an American TV channel the number was 71 as I was changing channels to a Canadian news service that had said the number was 31. -still very sad- My sympathy goes out to the friends and family members of all involved.

Just a bit of info , you cant fit 71 marines in a ch-53, 31 is near max capacity for those workhorses, and even if you had 20 people in the amtrack ,as in the picture, 71 is not a feasible number
