I have ranted about US politics and the actual situation but thought that this was worth a plunge into the middle side of the pool...

Remember this whiny whingy fellow? :

The big hard guy that was going to PUNCH Trump in the face...

This is what he has to say now :

Robert De Niro on Donald Trump: 'I can't punch him now he's president'

Actor expresses disappointment at Republican’s election victory and jokes he may have to move to Italy.

Robert De Niro reacts to Trump’s presidential victory

De Niro had used a video released in October to say he would like to punch the Republican presidential nominee, calling Trump “an idiot, a national disaster, an embarrassment to this country … this fool, this bozo”. The video sparked an argument with longtime Republican supporter Jon Voight, whom De Niro called “delusional” over his support for Trump.

After :

Bloody hypocrite and total knob head... along with the rest of the Hollywood go getters that want to get free advertising...

I used to respect De Niro... No longer...

he is no different than anyone else who flapped their jaws about Trump or Hillary, or anyone else for that matter. He is still an amazing actor with an equally amazing resume. Much like Springsteen, they should entertain and keep their political ideals to themselves if they want to enjoy the support of ALL their fans and not just the ones that think like they do.

I still like Bruce's music, though I think his political thoughts are weak. If I was dependent on the public support for my income, you can bet I'd have left my opinions inside, and not broadcast them. That way, I don't have to apologize for saying stupid things.

So he took the oath and is becoming a doctor...good for him.

I guess having an opinion is taboo in the land of the free. At least he respects the office if not the man.

Wait, so you lost respect for him because he said he refuses to punch a US President? Not only would Secret Service stomp him out if he tried, he'd also get the book thrown at him in court.

Just for reference, did you see what happened to the Iraqi guy who merely threw shoes at Bush (Muntadhar al-Zaidi)? Not only did he get beat down afterwards, but he was imprisoned after a 90 minute trial and supposedly tortured in jail. On the other hand, he was later released from prison after 9 months for "good behavior", so maybe it was worth it?

A) From what you said, Deniro was right on the money re; trump. And his response after trump was shoehorned into the office was quite reasonable. He didn't about face, he moved on with grace.
B) Any Honest self-aware human would be the first to admit that he is a hypocrite.

Obviously DeNiro respects the democratic process and has stepped back from attacking the now president-elect.

Why on earth would you lose respect for someone who is mature enough to accept defeat with grace ?

So... Let me see if I understand...

The call from Trump supporters, currently, is that we all should put aside our differences and give Trump a chance.

But when a liberal does so they're to be called out as hypocritical and unworthy of respect?

Noted.

Let's not forget this either:

"Cleanse"?

And they call the right Nazi's.

Exactly. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Actually no, people call the right Nazis because today's actual Nazis are right wing. Are all or even most right wingers pro-Nazi? Or course not and I don't think they should all be labeled as such. But don't pretend that today's actual Neo-Nazis and their white supremacist brethren aren't fully right wing.

Not too long ago, I listed a lot of recent examples in another thread HERE. But I guess we should pretend these people and their groups don't exist?

For me it isn't De Niro's handling of the Trump victory, but more the animosity towards Trump in his initial tirade.

I mean, it says a lot about him, the words he used...he's a mutt, an embarassment to this country, liar, con-artist, etc, etc.

I don't know or particularly care if any of those allegations are true, I don't support any politicians. But it's not very classy, is it? De Niro was happy to let his emotions get the better of him then...he must have been so, so certain that Hillary would win and gave into the temptation to be a complete moron and now he's got egg all over his face.

He didn't come off well, but the worst thing is that the left loved and pushed it like it was amazing. Wow, look, it's Robert De Niro pretending he's Jimmy the gent again...calling people a mutt. Only, he's so passionate! He must really mean it!

Presumably Mr Burke there occupies a safe space that is under the watchful eye of little Joe Pesci. Oh, we can't even call a man 'him' anymore without fear of having our eyes clawed out by a sharpened hoof.

But it's fine to spread this kind of hate against those who don't want to toe your party line. I genuinely believe we're on the cusp of something...

Some have described them as 'brownshirts' and I agree, it's an apt label for people who don't want to be labeled yet constantly label themselves and each other.

But there's a slight difference this time 'round, the fascists are outnumbered and any attempts of a takeover, as we've witnessed in the recent past, are futile.

The sad truth is even the nazis had more public support than these people.

lost all respect for deniro when he bowed down to corporate pressure to ban an anti-vax documentary from being displayed at a film festival AFTER pledging not to give in and display it,
he backed out of his word then, im sure he will again regarding his empty threat to move

Since punching somebody in the face would have been a bad thing, deciding not to do it ought to be a good thing.
Don't call it hypocrisy. Call it repentance.

I don't take any actors/actress/singer/songwriter/musician/director/producer etc etc. political view into where my compass points. There may be a few but I've no problem throwing them all out.

They are paid to act in a certain manner. That is their job and livelihood. For many of them, I refuse to believe they have actual views that doesn't end with a payday.

I call it full of taurine faecal matter... De Niro that is...

He just wanted to show his face and go with the flow but screwed up big time... IMHO.

If he was the man he makes out to be he would have stuck to his words... NOPE... a Hollywood celeb looking for free advertising and likes...

Over here in the neck of the woods I was born in we call that type of person a total tosser and loser.
