When is it too much? Women in their 60's giving birth to their genetic grandchildren in the quest to have children at all costs, Genetic testing, stem cell research, cloning, pharmacuetical companies releasing unsafe, under- tested drugs, are we becoming a society in which our wants and needs are far more important than the results that these procedures produce? Is it a quest for money, glory, or something else?

When did safety become secondary to immediate results? What about the by-products of these excesses? The children who are born who will never know their parents, the people who have died because of the unsafe drugs, the cloning"errors" that are systematically destroyed? In trying to create a utopian society are we really regressing?

This has been a long time coming. Germany did vast genetic testing during the second world war, the US military worked vasts amounts of pharmacuetical testing during the 60's and 70's and the works they started has only continued in the pharmacuetical companies and in goverment labs. We will eventually make some drastic mistake that will most likely cost the lives of many, possibly even millions if not billions of people, women and children, young and old will all most likely suffer horribly. And those who have said over and over again and been constantly ignored will stand and say once again.

"We told you so!"

It began back at the dawn of time when one of our distant-great-ancestors stood up and decided that she was tired of seeing her mother in pain and her children dying from fevers and other things; when he decided that maybe if you cut a hole in the skull you could cure the poor person with the headaches and convulsions....

It has been since forever. What are YOU willing to gamble for a dream? Some risk plastic surgery, others risk physical pain and stress and so on and so forth. And if you think things are rushed now, do some reading on medicines in the 1800's and before when anyone with a vat of turpentine and a handfull of grass could sell a patent medicine on the streets and nobody would try to stop them.

Byrd-Yes the 1800's did have their share of "Witch Doctors" with barbaric medicines, but then the 1900's brought change, pasterization, cures for polio, tuberculosis, immunizations and treatments that save millions of lives.
But now we seem to be regressing, medical experiments have to take place, but what they are concentrating on now is totally different, when was the last time anyone came up with a CURE for anything?
Now they are ways to improve your looks, prolong your sex life, lower your blood pressure, live longer with AIDS and cancer, . But the only thing they seem to be doing now is finding ways for us to live a little longer, but at a much higher cost.
