And why is that?
According to
Military
Times, overall in the military, Trump is only ahead 1.1% in a poll with a 2% margin of error. When you break it down by officers polled only,
Trump loses to Johnson, (T)26.0% to (J)38.6% (hell, even Clinton beats Trump in that segment of the military, with 27.9%). It is in the enlisted ranks
where Trump edges out Johnson, (T)39.8% to (J)36.1%.
By branch, the Navy and Air Force have Johnson beating Trump relatively decisively (Navy by 13.9%, Air Force by 3%), and the Army has him losing to
Trump by 5%, and the biggest outlier of them all, the Marines go for Trump over Johnson by a whopping 23.7%).
So, when you look at this poll alone, I was mistaken--they are virtually tied in the military.
But in other polls (a couple of which are linked to below), Johnson is the winner amongst military personnel, although it seems that most of them are
non-scientific online polls, so take them with a grain of salt, I guess.
The Hill: (J)38.7%,
(T)30.9%, (C)14.1%
This write-up from
Reason cites polls with Johnson ahead of Trump,
but does a good job discussion reasons why those online polls are unscientific and should be taken lightly.
But my point is still relatively proven in the Military Times poll and in my own personal experience with the veterans and active-duty Soldiers with
whom I still discuss politics--Trump and Johnson are in a statistical tie when taking the margin of error into account, and many of those military
personnel with whom I discuss the election say that even though they prefer Johnson's politics, they are voting for Trump in protest against a Hillary
presidency (which, in an online poll, would show up as a notch on the percentage for Trump). I'm uncertain if you're implying that I'm no longer "on a
roll" because I brought up Gary Johnson, or because you disagree with the claim that I made, but you'll have a very difficult time proving my claim
wrong.
Care to elaborate? I know/think that you're a fan of neither Trump nor Johnson, but hopefully you didn't just call me out because you don't like the
guy.
