"Goodbye cruel world
I'm leaving you today,
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye all you people
There's nothing you can say,
To make me change
My mind,
Goodbye."

Roger Water's voice echoed through the room that Karl sat in listening to Pink Floyd on repeat. As he sat in his recliner looking at the blank TV screen with dead eyes, another day of going through the motions done, and for what to make his boss more money, to make enough so that he could continue to live the life he no longer enjoyed, for this he had no proper answer. Karl reflected on what had led him here, a deep and profound sadness had been slowly eating away at him for years the only solace and respite from it was to be found in sleep, but now even his dreams couldn't provide refuge for his mind.

In his waking hours everything he once enjoyed had seemed to turn grey, his love of food, and video games and for spending time with friends and family, all were just feeble attempts at providing filler in his empty void of a heart. Was this caused by him seeing reality for the cold prison that it is, sure he tried to escape it through various means but even in a altered states of mind provided by weed or wine he could not pull himself away from reality for more then a moment. Karl had considered a permanent resolution many times, yet every time he would back away as he believed what he was told, that this was the path of selfish cowards.

The once great love of his life was gone and with her all remaining light in his world, his existence in darkness had become absolute. Karl then made a decision to bring about a change. He stood up and made his way to the washroom, he shaved and fixed his hair before proceeding to put on his best suit, all black with a red shirt. Karl drove to his favourite restaurant and had a meal of lamb chops and a baked potato and upon leaving left the waitress the most generous tip he could afford, he arrived back home with a full stomach and a feeling of contentment.

Karl prepared for bed this night knowing that all would change for the better, as he made himself comfortable in bed he retrieved his 44. from the night stand, and with the cold steel weight in his hand and the taste of gunpowder at the barrel in his mouth, he smiled the truest smile he had in years, and finally was welcomed with peace as he closed his eyes one final time.
