See how the 'ground zero "crater" portion' of the house is at the front in the garage? Thats a gas explosion.
What happens is old gas pipes leak into the garage space, gas is lighter than air so the space fills from top to bottom slowly with gas. When it
reaches all the way down to the pilot light on the heater or water heater--- Booom!
Lots of times people 'smell gas' but go in and out of their garage often enough to keep it from building to the point it reaches down to an ignition
source. Opening the garage door lets the built up gas out.
Only a matter of time. If you 'smell gas' have the gas and electric company come out, they use sniffer probes on your lines to see... its
free.
