I know the flight tracking software can be glitchy, but I just caught what looks like a Russian Air Force flight over some parts of California that are home to some interesting Aerospace and Defense companies. Look to be headed to Nevada...

Their Tu-154 started flying over the US Monday. The mission ends tomorrow and is based out of Travis, scheduled to fly over most, if not all the US.

*** RUSSIAN INSPECTORS TO GO ON OPEN SKIES MISSION IN U.S

A Russian inspection team will go on an Open Skies mission in the United States onboard a Tupolev-154M Lk-1 observation aircraft.

"The observation flight will be performed in the period from September 26 until October 1, 2016, from the Travis Open Skies airfield in California to a maximum distance of 4,250 kilometers," head of the National Nuclear Threat Reduction Center Sergei Ryzhkov told Interfax.

Open Skies missions contribute to greater openness and transparency in military activity of treaty member countries and bolster security through confidence building measures.

Looks like they came down around the Edwards/Palmdale area then over towards Star Wars Canyon, out to Nellis, and up to Groom and TTR. You can tell where they were scanning, because they dropped down from almost 30,00 feet, to about 13,000.

This is why bombers at the bone yard in Tucson AZ are taken apart and left that way. Like Zaphod said this is part of the Nuclear Arms treaty and both USA and Russia are allowed confirm arms and aircraft have been destroyed or disassembled...

Question for you Zaphod...Is your profile pic for the 95th FS Boneheads?

Kind of. It's an homage to the Robotech animated series, with a nod to VF-84, and the 95th.

Very cool!! I thought I recognized the resemblance... I actually have spent a lot of time with that Squadron...Or the 325th Fighter Wing in general...My dad is an honorary bonesmen for his support of the FS outside of the military...We used to throw their parties for them up at the lake...Good times and GREAT bunch of men and women!!

I might have even been present for a few off the books private airshows up there a time or two...

They came through Hickam a few times, and had some adventures. Good guys to work with.
