NEWS: Tsunami Aid Gig Raises 1.25m, page 1

Cardiff's Millenium Stadium has just held the biggest charity concert since Live Aid to raise money for the survivors of the Asian tsunami disaster. 60,000 fans packed into the stadium to watch the gig, and were joined by millions online, watching TV, or listening to radio. Organisers of Tsunami Relief Cardiff have said that the event has raised 1.25m. The seven hour gig featured names like Eric Clapton, Manic Street Preachers, Lemar, and Keane.

Tsunami Relief Cardiff, had been put together by the stadium management in three weeks, in the wake of Boxing Day tragedy in which more than 220,000 died.

Classical, rap, rock and pop performers including Snow Patrol, Charlotte Church, Lemar and Aled Jones came forward to offer their performances for free.

This concert has raised a fantastic amount of money for the tsunami relief effort, and all credit must go to the organizers, the volunteers, and the numerous artists who helped make it happen. The fact that they worked for free makes their efforts that little bit extra special.

Whilst the countires affected by the disaster attempt to recover, it must warm their hearts to know that the rest of the world is still trying to help them.
