The whole "you have to want us to help" thing always sat a little wrong with me.
I think maybe it's for the same reason that certain religions never sat well with me and is pretty much the reason I never really took religion
seriously. As a kid, it always confused and bothered me when I was told that I had to believe in God/be baptized if I wanted to go to heaven when I
die. I couldn't understand why for example, tribesman who never heard of God, would be condemned for something that wasn't their fault. And what about
all the moral and good people of other religions? Why would they go to hell for not being taught Christianity?
Anyway, I don't need the answers to those questions because I'm not religious and I'm not trying to start any kind of religious debate here, but I end
up asking myself the same questions in regards to aliens saying they will help us only if we want them to.
How many of us need to? If they are there, ready to help, why are we suffering because not enough people have gotten the message yet? Also, there will
always be a large section of the population who are good people, who would love to be helped, but simply don't believe we're being visited by aliens
because they have no proof. It never made sense to me that aliens visiting would be faith based. If they're waiting until most of us are "good" or
"moral", I'd say most of us are already. Obviously there's a lot of horrible people, but the majority are good.
Also, would the people who pray to their God (any of them) asking for help count towards wanting alien help? And if not, what would be the
difference?
Sorry for the rambling, but hopefully I'm getting across how I feel about the ultimatum given. The message about being a good person, being open
minded, etc is all a really good message by itself that everyone should follow. But if we haven't fulfilled our part of the "deal" already and it's
faith based, then frankly I can't see it ever happening before we blow ourselves up or otherwise kill ourselves first.
But I mean hey, if somehow the message ends up making even 1 person be more kind then it's worth it I guess since it doesn't harm anyone.
