Even with all of the advancements in modern technology, we still haven’t made contact with intelligent life on other planets. But what if our attempts to communicate have been ignored?

In 1973, a radio astronomer named John Ball came up with a possible theory as to why aliens – if they do exist – haven’t gotten back to us. Ball’s “Zoo Hypothesis” as it came to be known, posits that alien civilizations exist, and the most highly developed of them have been communicating. This elite alien “club” has come upon a mutual agreement to leave those deemed primitive or “lesser” life forms alone, only to be watched from a distance. Earthlings, therefore, did not make the cut with the galactic cool kids.

I really believe that we are not visited at all. All the pictures, of supposed ufos pictures taken, are blurry, fuzzy, or look like a dot. I believe that we are so young as a civilization, that compared to the other races out there, we are intentionally left alone.
And on another note, with our problems on earth, they may not want to visit. Being how hostile we are towards each other, they don't want to deal with us.

I think that life in the Universe is common, that most star systems has at least one planet with life.

Therefore intelligent species who has existed for millions of year and can travel the universe don't care about us at the stage we are in, as there is so much life out there to keep them busy.

I know if I was alien I would avoid us, I have no interest in Kardashian wars.

On the same note, with all the movies we make about aliens, murder, wars, and alone with our news and information, is also unintentionally beamed into space. If they have seem or intercepted the transmissions, probably scared to death of us. But also, maybe a good thing we are not visited. We are a hostile race, they will be probably too, so, if they came here, we all would be doomed.

I don't know if they'd have to avoid us. To them we may look like a colony of bacteria on a distant spec of dust. Maybe they have ways to communicate that we can't recognize yet (light speed transmissions may be to slow for them).

I think perhaps we have answered all the questions they have..... From I Love Lucy, to Dancing with the Stars. Not to mention this impending catastrophe.

If you think about it, they could just mine the debris field for precious metals. Our water is no good.... lots of toxins contaminating everything else.

Or it could simply be because of the built-in speed limit that Einstein proposed and no one has successfully refuted. If we CANNOT exceed the speed of light, then this would explain the non-presence of aliens. We get around that issue easily in science fiction because we can imagine anything. Why, all we have to do is invent Warp Drive! Easy Peasy! Or sometimes we posit an "inter-dimensional" way around the speed of light. You know: Enter a Black Hole at one end of the Universe and come out in another. Or we go all-religious and use Heaven as a short-cut. There are any number of ways to imagine a way out of this dilemma, but perhaps fewer ways to actually accomplish it.

Now I'm all for "thinking outside the box" and admitting "we don't know everything" and all those platitudes that are acceptable in attempts to dismiss this wee small problem. If we do not imagine "getting there" one way or another, then we never will. There's no good reason to limit our speculation on what MIGHT be possible, even if we have no idea how it COULD be possible.

But what if we've actually got it RIGHT? Either Einstein is right, or we've got something REALLY BIG entirely wrong. Now as the only self-loathing species it's easy for us to imagine getting it wrong. After all, don't we always screw everything up? Can't we always point to humanity's lack of imagination? And to be entirely fair, we have some intriguing clues that may give us hope. What about this "quantum entanglement" thing, what Einstein called, "Spooky action at a distance." Doesn't that "prove" faster than light speed is possible?

Well, no, it doesn't. We can't even figure out how it works, much less create a practical application. Right now, we're just speculating, and the phenomenon is not new. It's been around for a good long while an no one has come up with a decent explanation for it. So right now, today, the only way we know to get to the stars is to construct some sort of Space Ark and take thousands and thousands of years to do it.

But if the Universe does have this built in speed limit, if there are aliens, as there surely must be, they can't get to us and we can't get to them, which means we're on our own.

"Or it could simply be because of the built-in speed limit that Einstein proposed and no one has successfully refuted. If we CANNOT exceed the speed of light, then this would explain the non-presence of aliens."

But the speed of light has been exceeded. In the first milliseconds of the big bang, thus it is possible to have speeds much much faster.
The rest...... plausible, no argument there.

I wish the world governments would pull their heads out their butts and instead of a money system, use Star Treks way, a resourced economy. With that, anything is possible to achieve, and we can, as a species, venture into space in search of them. Or we may finally be put on the map as a type 2 civilization.

If they are, it'll be because they've read ATS and realised most of our population is simply too ignorant and paranoid to waste time on.

I am pretty sure that we have been visited many many times, but that we have been deemed too primitive, ultra-religious, superstitious, and dumb to make contact with.

Don't worry OP, they won't stop their agenda just because you don't believe they're here.

That's completely out of context. We're not in a Big Bang situation any longer (when there were just two elements and no space), but in the Universe as it exists, where the speed of light limitation applies.

That is a hilarious position to take. It is WE that have ignored the advances of ETs to us. Our governments continue ignoring and denying the credibility of any and all UFO reports. As typical with such anthropocentric pieces you dismiss UFO images and the sole evidence that they may exist and ignore half a century of documents and first-person accounts of witnesses.

What makes you want to take that position? Forget any brand of human logic, think freely of what it means to be a superior intelligence that comes to visit a Third World World that is still wrapped up in animalistic passions. What would be your manner of "attack" if that wise ET?

Almost all of which are useless "lights in the sky," secret military projects, charlatans, and people seeking attention. When you start looking at this "half a century of documents" you come out with precious little.

The question remains: How did they get here?

Tachyons seem to 'theoretically' have speeds much beyond light, in fact no speed limit if I understand the current thinking there.
I just don't think the speed of light ie. 186,000 + - is an accurate example of velocities in the universe. We have only observation from earth and a couple orbiting telescopes, but namely Hubble to observe phenomenon from.

The fact that light speed has been exceeded simply indicates that it has happened, and likely could be reproduced in some manner. But The whole topic is speculation anyway.
