Russian Runaway Robot Radicalized, Got 'Arrested' at Political Rally

Only in Russia I guess.

The same robot that tried to escape twice from its manufacturer has now been detained by the police for taking part in a political rally.

After traveling to Moscow from its home in Perm (this time accompanied by technicians), Promobot attended a rally for Russian Parliament candidate Valery Kalachev. According to a spokesperson for the company, it was collecting voter opinions “for further processing and analysis by the candidate’s team.” It is believed that someone reported this suspicious activity to police and they quickly arrived on the scene.

“Police asked to remove the robot away from the crowded area, and even tried to handcuff him,” the Promobot spokesperson told Inverse, adding that the robot did not “put up any resistance.”

So what was the poor robot doing?

Before its arrest last Wednesday, the Promobot was busy "recording voters' opinions on [a] variety of topics for further processing and analysis by the candidate's team", a company spokesperson told Nathaniel Mott at Inverse.

While that might sound like some fairly harmless (and not particularly unlawful) activity, it seems to have been enough to raise the ire of local authorities, who moved in to apprehend the robotic troublemaker.

Yes, only in Russia.

Ha. Does that mean we have the first robot with a criminal record?

Can't have an accurate record keeping device involved in voting, silly. Those numbers need to stay fluid so people still believe the outcome when it's blatantly rigged.
