The Sudan peace deal has come into difficulties, with the southern rebel group, the SPLM, saying that they were not consulted on which nations would make up the UN peacekeeping mission that is expected to be sent to the troubled region in March. The group is unhappy at the number of Muslim countries being asked to contribute forces to the UN mission, which is thought will involve more than 10,000 troops.

The despicable actions of the Sudanese government have not recieved the full attention that they should, and it could easilly be said that the SPLM's reaction reveals a real fear; that the Muslim countries being asked to contribute to the UN mission will only weaken the peace deal rather than monitor and strengthen it.

Of course, this is highly unlikely to happen, and the SPLM has to have faith in the UN and its forces. They must understand that the UN is there to help them, not harm them, regardless of which nation the UN troops are from.
