Heroic Dog Saves Guardian Moments Before Italian Earthquake Toppled Their Home

In amongst all the doom and gloom, posts full of bile about Trump and Clinton, and other assorted depressing threads, it's nice to have some positive news. From the terrible Earthquake that just struck Italy we have one such story..

After suffering a 6.2 magnitude earthquake that reduced entire towns to rubble, a small town in Italy was struck with a 4.1 magnitude aftershock early in the morning. In the midst of a tragedy, in which an estimated 250 lost their lives and even more lost everything, comes a heartwarming story that shows the strength of the bond that we share with our animal companions.

Anna M., a woman who lived alone in one of the affected areas, was at home when Rudy, her German Shepherd, began acting strangely. Anna told Italian news outlet, La Nozione, ”Rudy had been nervous since early evening. I didn’t understand why. I thought he had seen someone or some cat. Then, at about two in the morning, he began running through the house, barking like a madman.” When Anna brushed him off, Rudy didn’t give up and later on that night, he grabbed his guardian’s jersey with his mouth and started to pull. Even after being told to stop, Rudy was relentless, so Anna allowed him to pull her out of the house. Moments later, the aftershock struck.

It has been proven in studies that dogs are sensitive to earthquakes, and it seems this was the case in this story, and it saved someone's life.

Rudy wasn’t just acting up — he was trying to warn his guardian of about the impending danger and when she wrote it off as strange behavior, Rudy took matters into his own paws.

Fighting her tears, Anna told La Nozione ”I am grateful to Rudy. He’s such a smart dog and now I owe him my life. I just hope we can survive now.” Anna, like many others in Italy, has lost friends, family, and all of her possessions due to the earthquake. But it’s because of Rudy and his love for his guardian that they’re both alive.

So no political point scoring, no conspiracies here, just a something a bit lighter and a heartwarming tale.

I really think we as a species are completely blind and deaf to the world around us. We're only interested in shiny things, and have lost sight of how everything is connected. And we're getting dumber and dumber, even the most intelligent of us are only partially able to make a difference. A good man creates technology, all the bad men take it and use it for their own means - more shiny things.

I think this is why I am calmer around nature. Bodies of water. An open clear sky, where the stars remind me of where the stuff of our creation came from.

Even birds can navigate the planet and return to where they need to be. We can't even get out of a national park.

but is this the price we pay, losing our inherent direct link to this planet that gives us life, to have shiny things?

strange to ponder... I would rather be connected to nature, than connected to technology that dumbs us all down. says I, posting using said technology to a place that is made from a different sort of same technology...

I imagine the first one's response was to this devastating sentence in the quoted article:

Anna, like many others in Italy, has lost friends, family, and all of her possessions due to the earthquake.

I'm so thankful she survived and that she still has her dog. It is a cool story to come out of this tragedy, but the situation is still overwhelmingly tragic for this woman.

Thanks for explaining me. It is actually not that far from where I live, sometimes we went to Italy for grocery shopping, or just a quick pizza. So this really made me cry.

Especially a GSD

Italy's earthquakes since 2008 are manufactured by the italian military and secret services to extort money from the ECB and from Germany/EU funds.

Too bad Rudy isn't a US dog, cause Rudy for president.
