Comparing prison wages to that of a person who didnt break the law is a bit off. If they want the higher wage then dont break the law.

There it is right there... ...you do not consider it slave labor as these people have committed crimes and therefor lost the right to earn the same as someone whom has not committed a crime....

Why all the theatrics ?...why not just come out and say what you really mean instead of dancing around questions using courtroom tactics ?

I have stated my position several times now. You were to busy trying to accuse me of supporting "slave labor" when none exists.

Next time pay attention.

The inmates who choose to work in those programs get paid - plain and simple. They are convicted and are paying a debt to society. When their term is done then they can go out and get a job that pays more money.

In your false narrative you overlooked the fact the OP is about shutting down private entities from running the 22 low security federal prisons in question. So your argument is still way off as it does not take into account those little things called facts, which you apparently think are interchangeable based on your failed arguments.

Your argument might work in Australia though since you seem to be stuck on using information that has nothing to do with the US or op.

and yet it doesnt meet the definition of slave labor as they are compensated. Willfully ignoring inconvenient facts doesnt support your false assertions.

slave la·bor
noun
labor that is coerced and inadequately rewarded, or the people who perform such labor.
"most of production is carried out by slave labor"

Plantation slaves were compensated with food, shelter, clothing, medical and received cash bonuses to buy candy, ribbons, seeds, chickens etc.

Children in Bangladesh, who are chained to sewing machines, are also compensated, to what comes to pennies a day.

You just said this!

and yet it doesnt meet the definition of slave labor as they are compensated.

So now you're saying it isn't about compensation after all, it's about punishment. Prisoners are being forced to work at slave wages as punishment! Why didn't you say so to begin with?

So large corporations should benefit from cheap labor through the for profit prison system, because the criminals deserve it?

Why shouldn't large corporation be required to pay the same wages, and make inmates use that money to pay restitution and fines, support their families, pay for their own upkeep?...You know, just to keep the American market competitive.

For profit prisons set a very dangerous precedent on more fronts than one!

You could. Or, you could think American prison"Chain gangs". You could think India and Bangladesh factories too, those kinds of things that ruin hypocritical American businesses.

For Profit Prison = think corruption and justification to create criminals. Think youngsters piped lined into the prisons system straight from our public school system, being responsible for the manufacturing of Donald Trump's "Made in America" campaign caps that say "Make America Great Again", proudly made by American slave labor prisoners, the largest prison population in the world!

USA! USA! USA!

I get the impression we are flogging a dead horse here, the attitude being displayed is no different to the attitude other minorities have had to put up with (im picturing the movie django)....they are not fit to be members of society so therefor they deserve to be slaves.......

The federal system does not use chain gangs. This is what I am talking about when it comes to understanding what you are talking about. You cannot make an argument in the overly broad manner you are trying to do and you can't ignore the laws in place simply because they dont support your position.

In this case you are also failing to understand what the Federal BOP is saying / doing. In this case they are Federal minimum security Prisons and are part of the BOP system. The staffing of those facilities was outsourced and that was it. They are not private prisons nor were they for profit.

In my post here it lays out the specifics. The federal system has 122 facilities. Only 13 of those facilities used contract staff and were still required to comply with federal law / standards.

You need to understand the concept of separate sovereigns when it comes to State and the Federal system. You need to understand how those different systems operate and why. You need to understand the fundamentals of the criminal justice system, specifically the courts and punishment.

There is no slave labor and you have failed to support your failed argument that there is.

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion. You are NOT entitled to your own set of facts.

Not anymore they don't. They used to, and that's exactly what we're cycling back to, forced hard labor, supervised by armed overseers. We have inmates working on roads, as fire fighters, making our textiles, our furniture.......

You don't have to patronize me! We're talking about private FOR PROFIT PRISONS, subsidized by the government. Don't tell me it's not real or not happening the USA!

SCHOOL-TO-PRISON PIPELINE

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State

It's an unethical practice that uses the American justice system to procure slave labor as chattel, for the benefit of huge corporations and their stockholders, to the detriment of the American working class and the victims of social disenfranchisement and the safety of the American public in general.

There is no slave labor and you have failed to support your failed argument that there is.

Yes there is. You just justify it as punishment. But a rose is still a rose.

its hard to patronize someone who doesnt know what they are talking about.

You guys continue to think what you want, regardless of all the facts that say you are wrong.

As I said earlier - You are entitled to your own opinion. You are NOT entitled to your own facts.

As long as you, and your ilk, continue to deny the existence of corruption in the penal system, you are part of problem. The foxes are running guarding the hen houses.

Learn what the judicial system is before you try and speak on the topic. Law Enforcement is NOT a part of the judicial branch. Law Enforcement falls under the Executive Branch of government. Law Enforcement cannot bring charges against anyone as that is the purview of the Prosecuting Attorney. Law Enforcement does not determine guilt / innocence, the courts do. Law Enforcement has nothing to do with sentencing as that belongs to the courts.

Educate yourself before you use the term "you and your ilk". If you are going to try and attack someone you should know what your talking about so you dont look like an uneducated fool who cant be bothered to open a book and learn something.

Federal inmates get paid for their work. There are no federal chain gangs. There is no slave labor.

Denial, not just a river in Egypt.

The Thirteenth Amendment forbade slavery and involuntary servitude, “except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.”
www.theatlantic.com...

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Slavery and involuntary servitude, as well as torture, is alive and well in US prisons.....an unending flow of cheap labor invented by corrupt politicians, fueled by corrupt judges and police.

Once again you undermine your own argument.

Ill say it again... you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. The argument you are trying to make is not supported by anything.

And your's is a circular argument.

"There is no slave labor, because inmates are compensated"..

Then when that doesn't fit the definition of slave labor you say:

"There is no slave labor, because it's legal to force criminal into slave labor. Ergo, if it's legal it isn't "slave labor"."

It's still slave labor. When that labor is privatized to benefit big corporations, and fostered through for private profit prisons, that's bad for everyone, as has already been shown.

Thank goodness the Feds have decided to phase out their use.
