Dangerous ghosts?

I'm curious to know if anyone has ever heard of a ghost or spirit that harmed a living person.

I'm not particularly convinced that ghosts exist, but it occurs to me that whenver I hear "ghost stories," the human is frightened but never physically harmed. I wondered if there are any famous or semi-famous ghost stories in which the spirit caused physical harm, or if ghosts are believed to be completely harmless.

That movie FREAKED me out. There was a dollar theatre that would allow kids into R rated movies. Us naughty kids would tell our parents we were seeing the OTHER movie and go see the R rated ones. I went with friends to this one. I was between 11 and 13 and it has scarred me for life. I wore tight sweatpants to bed for MONTHS after this.

The exorcist also scarred me, I saw it around the same time.

It scared the living crap outa me too. I can't remember how old I was, but I was pretty young and we rented it on a laser disk if I remember correctly. I remember being freaked out and my brother giggling cause of the nudity.

I've never seen the movie... and if it's as creepy as it sounds, I'd just as well stay away from it (I'm easily spooked!)!

Have any of you on ATS ever had a violent experience with a ghost?

Never experienced a violent ghost or entity, but Im pretty sure that theres a damn right rude one in my house. It always drops the temperature when Im on the throne and you know when movies get to the good bit? It changes the channel!

At times I feel like being violent towards!

I have read accounts of entities making people go insane and/or killing themselves.

Excorcist and The Entity did nothing for me. Movies don't scare me at all except for one. I think it was called The St. Francisville Experiment or something, I know it's fake but I watched it alone in the dark when I was young and.....................

Perhaps there are people who have claimed to be assulted/harmed/molestered by ghosts, but they have been written off as either crazy/delusional or attention whores. I thought "The Grudge" was pretty intense; a nice little flic with modern and cultural twists.

i would say that movie "The Grudge" was probably the best movie about hauntings i have ever seen. Me and my girlfriend went to watch it and after that she turned all the lights on in her house at night for a long time. i scared her one time by asking "but what about the attic?"

I thought the scene with the bed was the best. One of the few horror scenes that actually sent chills down my spine. That and all of the guys screaming, "oh, s***!" at that part. What was cool was that it was originally a Japanese movie, and the people who played the ghosts in the Japanese film also played the ghosts in the American version. Now if only Sarah Michelle Geller had died right away...but I digress

To answer the question: I think that it's more likely that you'll hurt yourself running away from the ghost than it actually doing something to hurt you.

The Bell ghost is accused of poisoning Mr. Bell I'm sure a google search on the Bell Witch would take you to a site about her. It's actually an interesting story. I also saw a show on TV where ghost screwed with a family. The guy had pictures of where scratch marks would appear on his body. I think the camera was actually rolling when one of these attacks occured.

I just want to add to this post and say that in alot of the "Experiences" that people relate, their is usually strong emotions of fear involved? why is that? Why do people see something (i.e. a hairy monster/shadow or a light entity) and either they say they feel extremely safe or fearful? Now i know people , if their is a bloody accident on the freeway , people will scope it out like hell! but you never hear about people trying to grab or touch or chase these entities down?

I think a lot of it has to do with the way the human mind works. That, and the analogy that you used of the ghost in the bedroom vs. the accident on the freeway are interconnected. The accident has to do with a human's morbid curiousity. All humans seem drawn to death because they are naturally curious about it, a sort of don't want to look but can't look away situation. Another aspect of it is people reassuring themselves that "it happened to them but it can't happen to me because I won't make the same mistake." But at the same time, the bodies in the car wreck are something you can see and touch and understand. With ghosts, it is something that you are largely unsure about. Since ghosts are an unknown and represent what happens to us after we die, we ultimately fear it, as we fear death.

I would suggest looking into the "Heartland Ghost" as featured on the old Sightings TV show. This was such an intriguing case they did a very long study on it, even a movie. They actually captured the scratches on the father appearing on film, as they happened! To me, this remains as the best example of this kind of harmful Poltergeist.

I'm still on the fence as to whether another entity is responsible, or it's the little girl's manifestation. I'm inclined to believe that an entity is using the little girl's ability to it's own purposes, a rare case, but not unheard of. If so, then this is a powerful entity, and this coincides with what the psychics brought in have said about it.

the grudge? that was a rather boring movie actually.

I feel my house is a hotel. ghosts check in and leave every few months. we had lots of different ones. ranging from a kid that likes to hide things and we thought we misplaced or lost the items. we also had some that were just quiet and some more actively there with a bit of a threatening feel to them.

it's just that there are lots of sightings of ghosts, but you rarely hear about them. only the bad "evil" ones get looked into. mainly because those also manifest more clearly by throwing things around the house for excample.

My brother was thrown through a window at a young age by a ghost/spirit/entity. We were playing and my mother was talking to her friends. A few minutes beforehand they noticed something odd.... then my brother was thrown through a window, shattering it. The strange thing was that he had not a single scratch or mark on his body from the glass. It was violent in a way....

I have had few ghosts or entities act violently towards me, I have had them throw things at me, but never injure me. I think mainly to get my attention.

Yes my dad was physically harmed by a ghost. In the end he had to get the house excorcised. Nuff said.

Back in the 1800s a Canadian girl valled Esther Cox was abused by one, threatening messages wre left includoing "Esther Cox you are mine to kill"
Although you may not bnelieve me but the exorcist was based on a true story the wee boy kept getting abbused by an evil spirit enough said
