Kenyan track coach fails to show for opening ceremonies after being confronted.

I guess he was taking bribes to warn athletes in advance of drug tests to help his athletes dodge them

The Rio Olympics have been plunged into a new doping scandal after the Kenyan team’s track and field manager was secretly filmed offering to protect cheating athletes from the drugs testing authorities.

I wonder what happened to the good old days of actually winning because you were truly the best and not simply doped to the gills?

I think we should have an Olympics of Doping.

Who can HGH (or whatever) themselves into the baddest mutant on the planet?

Highest toxicity level without dying wins the gold. I bet it would draw just as wide an audience, if not greater.

I believe it would bring the biggest crowd ever if they had the Death Games

I am not sure there ever was such a time. Even back in ancient greece they doped and cheated. People have been popped since 1904. The drugs are just better now.

Maybe every one should be tested and then we could have the natural Olympics competition and along side that the enhanced Olympics, depending on which group you are allowed to compete in. This way no country /athlete gets banned as all competitions would be fair.

I say sod it and let them take what they want.
Who wouldn't want to see 100m in 5 seconds? a high jump of 3 metres?.
At least then everyone is on a even playing field.

What good old days? People have been caught cheating in the Olympics since at least the 60s (here's a basic list). Did you already forget the Cold War's Olympics, when the Soviet teams were loaded up on steroids (like the most noticeable one, the East German female swim teams in the 70s)?

The best athletes typically have access to designer stuff that doesn't show up in tests (yet). However, the testing is getting much better, and they're even going back and testing older samples from previous Olympics. Here's an example of what I mean:

23 London Olympics athletes test positive for drugs in reanalysis of samples

Ha! Rich Piana's name sprung to mind immediately upon seeing this thread title.

I suspect all world class athletes use performance enhancers, & I agree with the notion they should be allowed to level the playing field.
They could at least be used under supervision to mitigate some of the associated risks.

I believe that if one knows what one is doing one can avoid being popped for PEDs on pretty much any current test.

In one documentary I saw a bunch of athletes were surveyed about drug use. Most of them said they would use if they were guaranteed to be the best in the world in their chosen field, even if it meant dying in, say, 5 years. Attitude of champions?

Well this depends if the drugs are tied to birth defects and if its a combat sport. Having a boxer or wrestler, judoka, ma etc on peds can very easily lead to death. Heck tkd had a death years ago as it is.

The money, sponsorship, accolades, team mates, coaches that either look the other way or actively encourage it and the 1000 other athletes that would kill to take your spot are enough pressure for most people to cheat. It's rampant in all sports and always will be, wouldn't be hugely surprised if the ribbon twirlers and curling team are juiced up to the eyeballs too.
