So used to just clicking it and the notification going and never thought to actually delete them.
Job done if there is a mod about at some point.

I know personally that mods cannot see your PMs after you ask them to look into it, and you've deleted them.
Maybe someone can bring them back, but there would have to be a crazy reason for it.
I gave those mods permission to look btw, and it was only super mods who talked with me...
anyway..
