Opeth- Sorceress

Well Hello! Here is the first single from the new Opeth album Scorceress! I know there is at least ONE Opeth fan around here and i'm glad to be able to share this.

As a fairly new Opeth fan i Love the newer, "post growly vocal" sound... Heritage and Pale Communion are amazingly complex albums with all the soul and evil of modern metal, yet they are played mostly clean, and with little to zero growls. Right up my alley.

Don't get me wrong i love the older stuff, Still Life is excellent. Ghost of Perdition mat be my favorite example of the dynamic of loud growls mellow clean vocals..

ANYWHO i know this is a band people either love or hate but i think it's a band that old progressive rock dudes and metal heads can come together on!

Having been an Opeth fan for roughly 20 years I'm always amazed when people act all shocked at where they have taken their music..

You could find elements of what they are now in Orchid.

I love that they progress. I love that Opeth have a sound that is all there own. Much like Ihsahn has changed from his time in Emperor.

If I want to hear the same thing from 20 years ago I'll listen to Immortal or other bands that never change.

I fell off the Opeth wagon when their rhythm guitarist left the band some years ago.

But anybody that knows Opeth knows Akerfieldt is the brains behind the band.

It's hard to say, but I think my favorite Opeth album is Blackwater Park. I also really liked Still Life and My Arms Your Hearse.

I'm on my phone right now but I will check out this single when I get home.

I saw a recent intrview with Adkerfelt and he made a comment about how if you just add distortion and change the vocals to growls, Communion and Heritage a are pretty much the same as everything else. He also mentioned having no fear musically, which i think is what keeps them fresh.

Also i am a big Steven Wilson fan and once they started hanging out I honestly think they both got better in some ways..

Glad you appreciate, I have my tickets for the upcoming Detroit show and it will be my first Opeth show! Can't wait.

I understand why you may not dig the newer sound, and thats cool (wo?)man!

This new track seems to be the best of both worlds, has sort of a Deliverance feel but with clean vocals.

Also, I agree with you in general as far as bands that change and dont..

I am sometimes astounded at how i hear people talk about bands.."they sold out!" or "I liked their first album everything else sucks".. LOL

I get that that is legit true in some cases but Christ, man, who wants to stay the same as they were when they were 20 years old? And who do they owe that to?

No one.

Half the fun of really decided to dive into a bands catalogue is seeing the progression.

The album isn't released until the end of Sept, this is just a new song off it..

Yea looks like it got pulled.. Probably was an un authorized leak.. Bummer.

I'm sure it will be back out sooner or later.
