Don't we all have Sat Nav these days? wait, i just thought, no downloadable maps of the Atlantic or Pacific yet!!! oops, stay at home bro ..... or learn you star charts
I mean, if Christopher Columbus had of thought that way

He did. He did not make a move in crossing the Atlantic until he had arranged financial support, and then equipped himself with food and trained sailors and all the geographical knowledge that was available.
Where do you get the idea that Columbus was doing it single-handed with no previous experience?

doesn`t sound like fun to me,if you stayed near the coast and had a port to dock in every night it might not be bad but sailing across the ocean, probably not very fun.besides the obvious dangers of pirates, terrorists and USOs (unidentified submerged objects) you would be "on call" 24 hours a day to fix things and sail the boat.feeling tired and just want to get some sleep? not tonight, a storms coming you`ll be up all night trying to keep the boat from sinking or capsizing.

My two cents--this is a lovely idea, but does seem highly dangerous. Even after you learn to sail, there are other complications that previous posters have mentioned. There is also the concern that if you get into some sort of trouble, such as modern day pirates, others may have to risk their lives in order to save yours. If you are willing to risk your own life, that is one thing. To ask that others risk theirs because you ventured somewhere you really shouldn't have been is something else. I think there would be plenty to explore in stable, safe areas without having to sail the entire world. What does your family think? Would they be able to live with you vanishing and not knowing what happened to you? There was a story not too long ago about a man who had attempted to sail around the world being found dead on his boat. He had been missing for something like seven years and his family had no idea what happened to him. He had apparently died of natural causes, but no one knew until the boat was discovered by chance.

everyones so scared of dying. Get real why not live a little and step outside ur comfort zone. In not saying I've done tons of that but I try to. Life is so boring otherwise. U just live to be enslaved by the man. A worthless cog in a coeporate machine. Never getting a chance to break free and life life on ur own terms and make it into a fun exciting adventure. Like wake up. U could be dead by next year. At least go on a vacation
