The origins of: "la la la can't hear you" ?

This has been bugging me for many years (not know its origins, and it itself). That reaction it seems everybody does when they're hearing truth they'd rather ignore.

But where does that come from?

An old cartoon?

DNA?

I've had my eye out for it forever now, but haven't spotted it in popular culture other than the past couple decades.

I believe it was first made popular on Pee Wee's Playhouse in 1988.

But, it's roots run further back to ancient pagan rituals where it was intended to ward of malignant spirits.

I only remember him doing "la la la, connect the dots, la la la" (which would actually be the inversion).

I think it originally came from hunter gatherers.
and the care takers of the kids the sick and elderly.

when the gatherers (puberty foks, and the not fit to hunt)came back with some puffed up stories to explain why they took so long to get a few picks (to avoid helping out)

and the big story's that the hunters came back with to get extra attention of the young woman's to get laid etc.

after some years of experience (and getting older, less attractive to create kids) the lalala I'm not listening "hearing you" would be an evolutionary benefit I guess.

It's not from SNL?

The Hunters as opposed to the Gatherers perfected the "Yes Dear" phrase. Not convinced they were suicidal enough to go "La la la".

So then it IS genetic?

I suppose the big question then becomes, in other languages & cultures do they have the same exact thing but in different languages? Do they still say "la la la" [then the rest in their own language]?
