Amen to that, my sibling ... and well-stated.

Let us just hope whatever protest is happening right now in central Decatur is a peaceful affair.

The protesters have a point, and the enforcers in this situation also have a point.

This just needs to let everyone hopefully see the full situation, and both sides, truly, and then hopefully to dissipate.

I don't want riots in the town where I live. Nobody should....

Okay, the Decatur protest last night was apparently peaceful. The town center shows no signs of any problem, just the usual random trash, and rare pothole here or there.

It will only stay that way if there is genuine transparency and communication from police.

Hopefully we learn and learn fast.

Its a pretty easy inference to understand from the language in that article that the cops responded to a call from the "black community" part of town about a guy brandishing a weapon. What's going on with that? Pretty obvious that once again, the cops are baited into responding to a call from the "community".

Notice the paragraph below the main article:
"Hours after the shooting, police in East St. Louis, Ill., reported shooting a man who was firing shots at passing cars from his front porch. The suspect was firing a "long gun" and had a handgun on him, police said. Police say when they responded, the suspect pointed and fired shots at the officers. The officers returned fire and struck the suspect. He was then taken to a hospital; his condition was not immediately known. No officers were wounded."

Again, the cops baited into going into East St. Louis.

Obviously, the answer is for cops to stop allowing themselves to being baited into responding to calls from "the community" and if they do they'll not be put in the position of having to defend themselves and the killings by cops will stop.

So, yes, I'd prefer they'd declined the call rather than wading into obvious trouble like that. Except, that's not really the way its played out. The way its played out is that the cops dispatch a helicopter to the scene, observe whatever carnage is to take place and after the shooting's done, they send in a clean up crew. Its called "delayed response".
