That's great! I applaud you (seriously) because you are a teacher and you wanted to understand your students and not alienate them.

That being said...your story is one story. There indeed was anti muslim sentiment at the time. emotions were high. people died horribly. i know because i live about 20 miles away from where it happened....its hard to tell someone whose parent died in the twin towers that they are wrong for feeling a certain way.

You people also have to take into consideration when and where your President made that statement.
This was the NATO-summit at Warsaw, Poland, afterall.

The tone the U.S. delegation wanted to set there was a firm united western-alliance, lead by a strong and morally confident USA...

and in that context - all # breaks lose in the U.S.

Realise that outside of the U.S., people are bewildered by the stupidity at display in the U.S.,
...so the question: "Mr. Obama, just what the hell is going on in your country?" comes up quite alot nowadays.

In your anxiousness to get a dig in at me as quickly as you possibly could you have overlooked the very obvious part of my previous sentence that said "people LIKE you". Meaning not only yourself but many others who say the same things as you.

The fact is, nobody has strived harder to divide this country than Right wing media. They questioned Obama, the secret Muslim gay socialist kenyan president from Day 1. They have fed the racists and xenophobics--- to the point that now, Republicans have their Frankenstein hate monster and the whole party is over-run with backwards hate-tards.

Obama has actually been frustratingly tolerant of Republican ignorance-- reaching across the isle to the hate-tards far to many times. But I respect him for taking the high ground. Something Trump and Republicans in general know nothing about.

And yet its been a LEFT WING TERRORIST organization that been behind Dallas, and VIOLENCE all across this country.

Yet...we aren't as divided as some have suggested...yet. Obama and BLM still have several more months to race-bait and play the race-card. As long as Obama is President things will continue to escalate.

The biggest joke of all, is the way people on the left behave.

You will protest on the streets against war, against police power, against the system that has oppressed you.

Once the protest is over, you BEG for larger government, more taxes, and you vote for war mongerers because they call themselves "progressive." Every time an issue arises, you beg the big daddy government to step in and fix it, because we alllllll know how that works.
