To put it in terms.

His mother does say "life IS like a box of chocolates." This is her stating it.

But his mother dies. And he is telling the story. "Mom always SAID,(not says) life WAS, like a box.. "past tense. Because she died.

Exactly.

First, if there were alternate time lines and we were in one, then wouldn't you just experience one of them?

Why would we have both?

Its also possible to have different edits and versions of the same movie.

I may be experiencing the Mandela Effect right now because I remember ATS to be saner than it looks now.

Of course this is a different shot and it never was in the final film. Do you remember the falling feather? Do you remember that it was all one single front shot with no cuts? This is a famous scene and one of the effects for which the film got Oscar also for best visual effects. The shot in question that some claim here to have seen is from a 'behind the scenes' documentary where you can easily see the camera inside the frame at the end. This is just one of the many alternative takes they did to set the scene and rehearse the lines. AND it is a shot made by the cameraman, who was shooting the 'behind the scenes' documentary, not the actual camera work. But this moron with the Mandela Effect video has conveniently cut this part.

I want back in my version of the universe!

But here is another Forrest Gump Mandela Effect moment: youtu.be...

I have found, finally, the clip how I remember it and the same clip, changed. The clip how I remember it is older.

Let me guess, you're a Bernie supporter?

Well Forest always talked a bit weird because saying "was" just doesn't fit in the english language.

There is no way his alive mother would say : Life was like a box of chocolate
And even after death, when you quote someone, you don't start changing the tenses as it would not be a quote.

"My momma always said; life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you gonna get."

That was my thought it seems strange to change what she actually said into past tense when you're supposedly directly quoting her. It makes sense he would say momma always said "life IS life a box chocolates" as opposed to changing the is to was just because she's dead and it's past tense, the quote itself should always remain in the present

And people have never misquoted someone? There are rules and protocols to many actions in life and there are people who don't follow them. Movies can be even worse.

Just an in general thought...

Discussion of the ME aside, that scene gets me every damn time.

It doesn't help that my mom looks a bit like Sally Field.

It's only beaten by the scene where Forrest is talking to Jenny's tombstone under the tree.

Okay how about this one

It's always been "We're gonna need a bigger boat" but now, it's "You're gonna need a bigger boat"

Also re: Gump

Here's the back of the original VHS cover

Clearly says "Life IS like a box of chocolates"

Also it's Mirror Mirror on the wall

But now it's Magic Mirror on the wall

The Original Grimm transcript says mirror mirror so WTF

These only await proof of a change. I have not seen proof of a change over time. But the one in the OP was definitely changed.

I always heard pretend.

But you know what's weird? I always sang:
All the leaves are brown,
And this guy is Ray...
