LOL!

Even though considered "smart" by most...I still do some pretty boneheaded things sometimes....as my wife will be more than happy to point out, on many occasions.

As an actual idiot I'm just proud I got enough to get out of the moron category.

I can only dream of becoming an imbecile.

As a child, I used to pray that I would wake up normal... that I wouldn't have a high IQ and would be normal just like everyone else and enjoy the things they did. I prayed every single night.

Never happened.

I sometimes wonder which would be worse, to be the world's most intelligent retarded person or somebody who is clearly above average / normal but not quite smart enough to be successful with it. I tend to think the latter is worse, since a retarded person can still gain some personal satisfaction by accomplishing something challenging to them, while a low-level genius might understand that he's got a pocketful of pearls but nothing to do with them except cast them before swine.

It's not the lack of success.

It's that you think too fast. Imagine trying to deal with a world that's running half speed for you... you have to wait and wait for the class to understand what the teacher just said. You have to listen to repetitions for others but you got it the first time and can see some applications that look interesting.... but trying to bring others up to speed so you can talk with them is painful. It's being able to understand calculus but having to sit in basic math classes. It's listening to your boss outline a plan that's inefficient and time consuming when there are six other ways to do it better. Ways that he and the team will figure out in another two weeks.

It's listening to endless conversations on makeup and clothes and sports that you're supposed to be interested in; conversations about watching and spectating and not doing.

It's being "dinged" for reading three times as fast as everyone else ("Oh, you couldn't have possibly read and understood that.")

I prayed to be normal.

137 Here and great intelligence and social skills according to wife #6 so I guess the other 5 were correct. My greatest skills are engineering firefighting. Tell me the problem and I'll take care of it and make it right enough to go forward till a proper approved answer can be found. Good, fast , cheap pick any 2.

Have a few patents but my biggest savings was an assembly line that cost tens of thousands a minute to be shut down was stopped by a broken switch that was nowhere to be found. I sat there till the next shift with 2 wires taped to cardboard watching the job with a safety man sitting next to me. It was only 5 volts but we figured we saved nearly a half million dollars holding the wires together till a switch could be found.

I was just thinking of the super geniuses who manage to avoid getting bogged down by others and focus long enough on something that their genius can find at least some expression that allows them to live a more fulfilling life. Those who can power through the nonsense. Of course, that's not saying they'll be happy. Just more functional.

Never thought about an ice pick?

I tested twice at 116. Modest.

My first wife was an evil genius.

High IQ people see the trees and not the forest. Come up with solutions that aren't obvious to most.

Simple example, no means the total of what high IQ embraces. But what do I know?

Really need a bonafide 150 to answer that. Not an internet 150.

135 and I think very differently than average Americans, but then again I've been to many other countries and known many people besides just Americans, so my mind isn't imprisoned in a little box like most peoples's are.

the IQ tests abstract ideas, which is why it isn't an exact measure of intelligence

It is intelligence, though there are several kinds of intelligence. Someone who definitely isn't smart couldn't possibly score well on an IQ test, but someone can be smart in some ways and not in others.

I seriously thought about an overdose of drugs. Enough to fry the neurons.

Depends on the personality. My husband's a "tree" person. I'm a "forest" person.

I've been on both sides due to a traumatic brain injury. Personally never seen it as a valid measure of intelligence but scored 154 (was studying two degrees, applied math and journalism, at the time which are the two main skills IQ tests measure. If it had tested drawing ability or turning up to work without odd socks on I'd have failed miserably. There's far more types of intelligence then those measured via IQ (i.e social). I've met more people far more intelligent than me with no qualifications than I have with qualifications.

Socially I could get on with anyone but had a bit of anxiety. I'd always had terrible insomnia from age 12 and found it nigh on impossible to ever switch my brain off and get to sleep, would regularly be up for five or six nights in a row which was horrible. Luckily I was highly resistant to psychosis as only got to the hallucinatory state once for a few hours after a particularly nasty bout.

Academically I never had to apply myself until second year if Uni, to be honest was a bit of wake up call going from top one or two students in the class to mediocre, but worked flat out 70+ hours a week to get a distinction and merit.

Post brain injury I'm still in the top percentile for most things but bottom 34-16% for a few (remembering if an object has moved, taking in new faces, names, times, dates etc..) anxiety and insomnia have gone but I initially had a few aggression issues (common with condition). It was as if my brain couldn't process info so went into fight/flight mode and chose to fight. Luckily good friends and learning to take a deep breath solved that.

All the maths is there, had no idea what a table, or my family, was after the accident. I remember things like tables and chairs and other objects in rooms becoming invisible - this wasn't due to mental illness or anything of the sort, but an inability for my brain to what information about my immediate surroundings was important and unimportant - plus limited working memory capacity. I pay far more attention to family though and less daydreaming theoretical physics.

Language took a major hit, speech has returned to normal but my ability to write clearly and concisely has gone. I found it incredibly difficult to accept help - I'd always been a support worker or tutor - so I guess pride/ego can be a big downfall of higher IQ/adaptability/independence.

Strangely/paradoxically? creativity has gone up as I'm less of a perfectionist, depression has vanished and don't get stressed anymore but I work in the outdoors for wildlife trusts now instead of managing PR portfolios worth hundreds of millions.

Either way both have positives and negatives. I think morals and ethics are by and large separate from IQ. There's little doubt the Nazi scientists were absolute geniuses and generations ahead of other nations scientifically but clearly threw all ethics and morals out the window.

I admit to a bit of chemical dulling in the evenings. It works. It makes me happier in many ways. This is not an endorsement. Your mileage may vary.

Byrd gets it.

(or getting dinged for "not showing your work" because you did half of it in your head....)
