I can only dream of becoming an imbecile.

As a child, I used to pray that I would wake up normal... that I wouldn't have a high IQ and would be normal just like everyone else and enjoy the things they did. I prayed every single night.
Never happened.

I sometimes wonder which would be worse, to be the world's most intelligent retarded person or somebody who is clearly above average / normal but not quite smart enough to be successful with it. I tend to think the latter is worse, since a retarded person can still gain some personal satisfaction by accomplishing something challenging to them, while a low-level genius might understand that he's got a pocketful of pearls but nothing to do with them except cast them before swine.

It's not the lack of success.

the IQ tests abstract ideas, which is why it isn't an exact measure of intelligence

Never thought about an ice pick?
I tested twice at 116. Modest.
My first wife was an evil genius.
High IQ people see the trees and not the forest. Come up with solutions that aren't obvious to most.
It's that you think too fast. Imagine trying to deal with a world that's running half speed for you... you have to wait and wait for the class to understand what the teacher just said. You have to listen to repetitions for others but you got it the first time and can see some applications that look interesting.... but trying to bring others up to speed so you can talk with them is painful. It's being able to understand calculus but having to sit in basic math classes. It's listening to your boss outline a plan that's inefficient and time consuming when there are six other ways to do it better. Ways that he and the team will figure out in another two weeks.
It's listening to endless conversations on makeup and clothes and sports that you're supposed to be interested in; conversations about watching and spectating and not doing.
It's being "dinged" for reading three times as fast as everyone else ("Oh, you couldn't have possibly read and understood that.")
