Could Solar flares create earthquakes on our planet? Has anyone ever
heard anything on this subject?

Yes I have heard in the past, that earth is like a mirror of the sun, so if there are big storms on the sun we will see storms here. Solar flares are like quakes.

-After a solar storm strikes the Earth a geomagnetic storm erupts. The increased magnetic field strength of the magnetosphere pushes down on the ionosphere, which pushes against the oceans. It is due to the electromagnetic properties of sea water that the oceans become temporarily heavier. The extra heaviness of the sea water, coupled with the daily tidal forces of the Sun and Moon cause greater than normal forces to press against both the eastern and western boundaries of the Pacific Plate, but more so the western boundary in the South Pacific Islands region.

Below(click link above) are earthquake maps showing global earthquakes of magnitude 5 or greater for the five days following a geomagnetic storm. Notice the clear pattern of quakes in the South Pacific Islands region along with activity around the Pacific Rim. There is also a clear pattern of earthquake activity along the fault running from Greece to the Pacific Plate.

I second that Ycon...that's an excellent site...the corrolations between solar activity and the activity at Mount Hood were interesting to see as well.
I'm going to be setting SOHO right beside IRIS and the MSH webcam on my homepage and watching them daily when solar storms are active.

Thanks, just noticed a 6.6 quake hit today. Don't know if it is related to the solar flare.

Also, noticed these 2 quakes. One 4 days before the Tsunami and the other 4 days after. I'm wondering if it's connected and if the above quake may be a indication of something bigger to come. Scarey thought.

Just for everyone this forum who may not be aware.. Every earthquake magnitude represents an increase of 32 times the power.. i.e. a 5.0 is 32 times more powerful than a 4.0, and 6.0 32 times more powerful than a 5.0 and 1024 times more powerful thana 4.0. Anything less than a 7.0 is relatively common as an occurance, and are becoming more and more frequently detected with the improvements in seismographic equipment and the increase in monitoring stations throughout the world.
