How my mom helped the space exploration effort

First a little background:

My mom and I have always had an interest in all things space related. New planets being discovered, experiments in micro gravity environments, Hubble pictures, science fiction movies. Just some of the things we've always discussed. We've both always wanted to be a part of NASA's efforts but it didn't happen for either of us. I'm sure others have felt this too.. Wanting to help but don't know how. My mom once said she would like to be a janitor at NASA just to be helping in some small way (Heheh). I remember watching an episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike was cleaning grease from the bottom of the NASA crawler thing and thinking how cool even that would be.

Then one day she started following American astronaught Reid Wiseman on Twitter. He happened to be gearing up to go to the ISS and posted a picture of socks he was packing. After my mom asked where he got the socks from and he said they come from K-Mart, she offered to knit him some instead. Soon after she had several socks in orbit on the ISS and wanted to spread the fun to others. She's been to several places to let kids and other folks knit a few stitches on some socks that'll actually be going into orbit.

Anyway I'm just so proud of my mom for doing this. What a neat time to be alive. To stand outside at night and look up at the tiny little dot that is the ISS and know there are socks on there that I've handled is so cool to me.

That's really cool, I would also be proud if my mum done neat stuff like that.

I'd star and flag but no idea how to? using my mobile and everything is in green squares lol.

Yes, that is a fantastic thing to do for the pioneers who are helping shape the future of mankind. That may seem like a ridiculous thing to say, but our future does not revolve around this planet nearly as much as our past has. It is probable that unless we learn to live and work in space, we will have no future, so socks, sweaters, anything that keeps the folks up there on the ISS comfortable and connected to the rest of us, is a positive thing.

My mum used to knit me Jumpers and Balaclava's that could probably withstand re-entry if an Astronaut had to bail out for some reason or another.

Gee, all my mom did was let Jack Swigert feel her up in a Stuckey's restroom ... twice.

But huzzah for your mom's good moral character and her actually knitting together the fabric of space.

Oh ... and shouldn't it be "In space, no one can tear your seams" ?
