JFK: The Cuba Files: The Untold Story of the Plot to Kill Kennedy

I noted a recent thread here opining that the Golden Age of Conspiracy Theories is over. I can't buy that. I have also quoted William Falkner in saying "The past is never dead. It's not even past." Most people knew where they were when they heard the Twin Towers had been hit. For my cohort, it is "Where were you when you heard that Kennedy had been assassinated?"

Over the years, I've had various levels of interest in following the topic, but through Mark Lane, Jim Garrison and such, I've kept tabs and never have I accepted that it was not a conspiracy. The last one that I read was Dick Russell's "The Man Who Knew Too Much". That's an important read.

So the recent thread that I referenced above prompted me to comment about a book that I'm just wrapping up, entitled "JFK: The Cuba Files: The Untold Story of the Plot to Kill Kennedy". What makes it especially interesting is that the author is one Fabián Escalante, the former head of Cuban counterintelligence. I picked it up in Cuba earlier this year, and it was a good investment. Please note that the link that I provided goes to an Amazon page for the book. To the Mods, I ask that this be an ok thing. I am not pimping for Amazon, rather I would direct the readers to the very comprehensive Customer Reviews in which the book is dissected in a much better manner than I could.

JFK: The Cuba Files is not for the rookie, but it is still eminently readable if you have some knowledge of the various forces at play in Dallas on that November day in 1963. Yes, it is seen through a Cuban Revolutionary lens, but I did not find that it got in the way. In fact, it is critical to the story as, quite bluntly, the Cubans (and Russians) were scared #less that the act would be pinned on them.

Cuz that was the plan.

The Cubans maybe, they feared an imminent US invasion, the Bay of Pigs is what scared the crap out of them. As far as the revolutionary movement to overthrow Castro, they were formed, trained and set upon Castro by the CIA, who got really pissed that Kennedy refused to allow carrier airstrikes at the crucial moment, letting the 'revolution' fizzle before it got off the beach.

Then theres the US military who wanted oh so bad to go into Cuba and were again thwarted by the peace process between the leadership of Russia and the United States, swapping removal of Russian missiles from Cuba for the removal of US missiles from Turkey.

What a bummer, warmongers averted both times. Now tell me who wasn't pissed at Kennedy, the CIA, the Cuban Exiles, and the US joint Chiefs…

All covered pretty well by the book, "The Bay of Pigs".
