This is about to be a hot mess, ATS. We all are familiar with the tensions between India and Pakistan; two nuclear rivals....right? Well, in a move to thwart China's dominance in the area through territorial waters and island building, the US has given India access to a nuclear submarine to put India on par with China, strategically. This also gives them an advantage over Pakistan, unfortunately, and only serves to raise the stakes for the region. Now this will most likely lead to a Cold War between the two rivals as Pakistan will seek to be on par with India. This means attaining the proper weapons on the Black Market and through other illegal channels.

By extending the waiver to India but not to Pakistan, the US has chosen to discriminate between perpetual enemies with the fastest-growing arsenals of nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles in the world. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in front of US Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Paul Ryan in Washington DC [EPA] The timing of the US decision is as noteworthy as the decision itself. India expects to induct its first nuclear-armed submarine later this year, thereby attaining a second-strike capability that will put it on a strategic par with China. It will also give it a marked advantage over Pakistan for the first time - a disparity that will be accentuated when India inducts the supersonic interceptor missile it tested in May. Meanwhile, the US continues to pressure Pakistan to reduce its growing stock of battlefield-specific tactical nuclear warheads, its only strategic edge over India and the stated last-resort weapon for Pakistan, to be detonated on its own soil in the event of an overwhelming conventional Indian attack. In the circumstances, Pakistan can be expected to try to keep pace with India. Without access to dual-use technology, it can either source it from the international black market - without which the Indian and Pakistani nuclear programmes could not have succeeded - or it can ask China to resume the nuclear weapons and ballistic missile technology exchanges that ceased in 1992. The US continues to pressure Pakistan to reduce its growing stock of battlefield-specific tactical nuclear warheads, its only strategic edge over India ... In fact, Pakistan asked China to transfer technology for nuclear-armed submarines in 2014 and army chief of staff, General Raheel Sharif, was rushed off to Beijing for a meeting with Premier Li Keqiang, within days of India's recent interceptor missile test. Hesitant to date, because of the wider diplomatic implications, China might be tempted to agree to Pakistan's requests in retaliation for the US granting major defence partner status to India, which will undoubtedly aid India's quest to become China's military and strategic equal.

What's the logic behind this? To stop China? Well, now in our efforts to combat one problem, we've created another between India and Pakistan...2 Nuclear armed countries...! I don't know what to say except I hope someone at the top knows what they are doing.....What says ATS?

Destabilize, Divide and Conquer.

The US sat dominant after WWII and has never looked back. Ever expanding into the Middle East, (Africa), the Balkans and Eastern Europe, the "Asian Pivot" is a gentle euphemism for more domination there as well.

That is shocking.

If any of them decide to fire a nuke for any reason, we will have the start of WW3.

No. Obama did right this time. He has to do what he can to protect the US Tech Sector that has off-shored to India at his urging . As they handle 75% now , what would happen if India was overran by either Pakistan or China?

Ah! The dreaded Globalism…makes you wonder who's really in charge.

The corporatocracy.

The image of unification sold us by the media, the industrial military complex, hi finance and the law makers, who grease all the wheels with tax dollars.

Obama has done a bang-up job with foreign policy hasn't he?

The middle east is burning.

We've gone into a new cold war with Russia.

Now he's ticking off Asia too.

It'll be a wonder if we have any allies left at all.

We have more allies than ever Europe, Central and South America, Africa, Asia, the Mid East are almost entirely in the US camp.. Lets face it Pakistan has not been a true ally since before 911. They have always gotten support from China and always have at least one foot in a radical state.

Not arming India for so long was a stupid move on our part allowing China to get a jump on them. The threat from China has driven India, Vietnam, Myanmar and the ASEAN states to turn to the US along with Americas traditional allies on the region South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Pretty much you have ever nation from India to Japan united with US in the containment of China. India was going to get whatever they wanted from the Russians anyway.

Be failing to support India we would have them firmly in Russian hands and anybody who thinks that is good idea is not living in the West.

People seem to have a odd idea about history. This is the most peaceful time in human history. Wars are rare, and internal conflicts do not occur near as often. Look at the word over the last 200 years. Things now are down right peaceful and the world as close to disarmed as it has ever been.

Good point, Mr Spad. I appreciate your input.
