ATS On Tor

So is there any possibility that we'll see this implemented in the future? The anonymity has the potential to be abused by trolls, sure, but I feel like it'd be welcoming to any Washington or agency insider that felt like speaking out. We all know people from that circle are active on here. Or perhaps even some kind of whistle-blowing/leak submission system on Tor while ATS remains operating on clearnet.

Is there any way at all to make it work?

The moment you head toward that operational model, the Government will see ATS as an enemy to be silenced.

I for one think that is too much of a risk, especially while the people that run ATS live in the US.

Two things would happen. ATS would be shut down and our dear leaders would be thrown in jail.

Not an option.

Try Wikileaks! After they have published the data, we can discuss it in safety.

Well i believe ATS has a great deal of many influences that contributes to a better world.. As long as ATS fills it purpose it will probably be left alone.

I could go along with that but, how so? ATS is not private in any respect.

That would just put it on the map, more so, to be monitored, you still won't be anonymous. Besides the fact what valuable info is even released that isn't already circulated anymore these days. If I was whistle blowing, sure as hell wouldn't do it on a public forum(even as the OP mentioned a TOR one) opposed to a more protected medium.

They don't even run HTTPS.

ATS isn't exactly a large company and there's a lot of crap that goes along with setting up secure browsing on the host side.

why? Tor is compromised and not as safe as people think.

TOR is not something that should be promoted anywhere. If people wanted to speak out, they could do so through the staff via email and the staff would have the ability to post that content here, without the need of a dark web. TOR is for shady operations, not people wanting to get to the truth of anything.

Except for people in places like China, Iran, North Korea and others, where tor is the best tool they have for keeping the government of their backs.

Update 04/22/2016 - It may be the envy of surveillance agencies around the world, but proved to be a great embarrassment for its creator. It was one of the funniest moments for privacy advocates, and especially the Chinese people, when the creator (Fang Binxing) of The Great Firewall of China had to use a VPN to bypass his draconian creation.

Except they could also use a VPN, which a lot of them do. Clearly it's not free, but substantially quicker and more stable than TOR. I wouldn't say TOR is the "best" solution by any means.

I have used TOR a few times....

I have also noticed something extremely disturbing...

Every time I have ever tried to use TOR to post on some message board sites or whatever, I almost always got the same error message...

This IP has been banned from posting due to child pornography.

Needless to say, I do not use TOR anymore.... 99.99% that need that type of anonymity are using it for illegal purposes.

Haven't used TOR since the last time I tried it, that was a couple of years ago.


VPN is your best bet..... TOR will lump you in with a bunch of people you do not want to be associated with.

ATS its self doesn't need to be through Tor. Make a new email that is in no way connected to your real identity, make an ATS account that is likewise separated from your real identity. Access through VPNs. I've never tried accessing ATS through Tor so I'm not sure how it will behave. Also there are other alternatives to Tor and proxies to use. With the know-how you could set up your own.

How do you propose to get to the truth when the people hiding and controlling the truth will shut you down at even a mention of dissent? Oh, idea: anonymity.

as long as you see those icons of twatter, fecesbook and yousnuff here I wouldn't count on it.

Browsing ATS through Tor will work fine, and kill all the ads. Which is why they say you cannot login while using it. Because the ads help to generate revenue. Another reason is that Tor was a shield malicious people were utilizing to attack ATS .

Both of these were reasons stated by mods. If all you want to do is read and not post, the site functions as normal. If that alert you read was true, then its part of a campaign to kill and stigmatize anonymity and privacy in the collective psyche. As you questioned, who wants to be associated with that??

Makes for a more pleasant online shopping experience though, popups and annoying ads just cease to exist.

Can't see any advertisers wanting any part of that.
Nor can I see the owners wanting to align this family friendly site with the dark net.

Tor browser can be used to view the normal internet without a problem. It is not like there is a button that says "regular internet" , "dark internet" . I assume you would have to actually search for whatever illegal stuff exists, because its not blasted in my face or even advertised in any way when using the browser.

Shopping is safer, reading content is made much easier without ads in the way. The only drawback is many social communities and forums block input through this method by default as an attack on privacy and anonymity by associating all user automatically with illegal activity. Kind of the same way the establishment is trying to associate law abiding gun owners with criminal child killers to stigmatize the second amendment.

Because if you cannot be tracked, you are obviously a criminal by default right?? And if we don' want to ban guns, we support child murder?? But somehow, if we don't support child murder (abortion) then we are against women or something ...

it should be easy to see brainwashing when its obvious, but yet somehow people still blind to it.
