Last month 2 migrants were rescued from a dinghy as they tried to enter the UK by crossing the channel , today a group of 19 migrants were picked up off the Kent coast in a sinking inflatable boat , they are now in the custody of the UK Border Force.

The coastguard helicopter was scrambled following reports the rigid-hulled dinghy had been spotted shortly before midnight and was taking on water Lifeboats from Dungeness and Littlestone and coastguard crews from Dungeness and Folkestone were also called into action.

With the increased security and fences at the favoured crossing points it seems people smugglers are moving to the tried and tested method of launching overcrowded dinghy's to get their customers into the UK , how long before we start recovering bodies from the South Coast of one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.

Hopefully as a welcoming gift they are given a 1 way flight back to their country of origin.

People in refugee camps my heart goes out to but I have zero sympathy for cue jumpers who even before they arrive in a country show their complete lack of respect for its laws

I suggest Cllr David Monk has a poor memory.

Cllr David Monk, Conservative leader of Shepway District Council, said he believed high levels of surveillance in the English Channel would mean most boats crossing the channel would be identified.

He added: "I would have thought this was one of the most-surveyed stretches of coast in the world because it is one of the busiest stretches of water in the world.

"I am pretty sure our security is good. I cannot recall a previous incident, but this should act as a warning to the authorities to be even more vigilant."

Some think this man did regular runs.

. . . he could not explain why there were 16 life jackets in his £40,000 boat and his fishing rod did not have a line on it.

Those 19 rescued will now be texting and calling their friends and cohorts over the other side of the Channel, informing them they'll only have to stay afloat long enough to be within sight of a rescue vessel and they'll be taken to the UK free of charge and free of charges. They'll pass on all and any info regarding best route to take, and the questioning during the immigration process so that those on their way next will have their answers and everything else ready for when they too will be 'rescued'.

They're not as green as they are cabbage-looking. Quite the contrary, actually.

A little more information has been released , 18 Albanians plus two British people have been detained.

The BBC has been told that some of the passengers, who are believed to be migrants, phoned relatives in Calais to let them know they were in trouble. The French authorities were then alerted and contacted the UK coastguard, the BBC understands. Border Force officials are interviewing the 20, which also include two Britons.

The UK coastguard said it was called just before midnight on Saturday to an incident off the coastal village of Dymchurch. A helicopter from nearby Lydd and two lifeboats with coastguard rescue teams from Dungeness and Folkestone began the search.

My question would be "where are the migrants getting the money from to pay the sugglers, I thought they were suposed to be poor"? Just remember smugglers will not want IOUs, they want cash.

Should have let them drown.

But go ahead, save all the freezing snakes and put them in your pocket to warm them up.

The Wests foolish bleeding heart untempered and childish compassion will be, and is currently leading to, its own downfall.

In constant need of donations, yet have thousands spare to enrich organised crime. No wonder all the local 'help the refugees' types are looking like they wish the ground would swallow them up.

Washing is often very problematical for the migrants and the life is tough yet almost everyone has clean clothes showing no signs of wear. The Catholic priest must have been telling the truth when he said 'We just give them new clothes because they can't wash the ones they have'.

Poor is relative. Well off and consuming excessively is un-green. The green thinking volunteer types are encouraging the new generation of mindless, fashion conscious consumers.

If I had a pound for every outrageous contradiction in the migrant crisis story I could pay an Albanian people trafficker to take me on a world cruise.

That's because you are uninformed. A lot of people fleeing countries like Syria do have some money. They just have to leave their countries as their lives are at risk. And the ones that don't haveNy money scrape and save to pay for their passage

Err, but these people were from Albania! And huge numbers of migrants are not in fact from Syria, that is not disputed in any way, so I'm not sure where you get the "uniformed" impression.

Also, many of the genuine asylum seekers from Syria are waiting in refugee camps outside of Syria and are claiming asylum through the proper channels, of which many are granted from a huge number of countries worldwide and are then, safely transported to the country that have accepted them and go on to lead happy, productive lives in their adopted country. No need to jump into a rubber dinghy.

I was only responding to his comment on money.

Well... the sooner we vote 'out' if europe the better as that should deter many from even trying as we will be in control of our Borders again.

Italy & France need to stop the flow by sending them back as soon as they arrive.

Anymore waiting at libya need to go back to their Country of Origin.

We don't need or want anymore...

We will be staying in. I can assure you. That's how I and everyone I know will be voting, to stay in. To leave is mad.

We will be staying in. I can assure you.

No one can make that assurance , your belief that we will remain is no more valid than my belief we will leave.
If there were clear water between the two camps then perhaps it would be different but as it stands polls show the vote could go either way , the remain camp may show a small lead at the moment but the last election showed us the only poll that matters in the one on the day.

To stay is not only mad it's short sighted.

To think the UK is strong enough to stand on its own is madness. Those days are long gone.

To be fair, considering the entire apparatus of government and the opposition are behind remain I'd be amazed if the vote was allowed to go to leave.

Sad to see you have so little faith in this country , we were strong enough to stay outside of the single currency and prosper as Europe faltered under rules designed to help Germany and France , I believe we are strong enough to make our own way in the world without the EU holding us back.

I live on this stretch of coastline, I can see the English channel where these immigrants were picked up from where I live. Its totally undefended down here, the only areas really patrolled are around Dover and Ramsgate docks as Dover is "the gateway to Europe" and one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world (which makes me wonder how they are not seen by ships) but I can think of a dozen easy to reach places for boats to land undetected just a few miles west of the docks in fact there's a place at the base of the cliff where my house is where boats/dinghy's have been found abandoned several times over the last year

Since when has Syria been the other side of the English Channel? These people weren't fleeing Syria, and the only time their lives were at risk was the second they voluntarily stepped into that rubber dinghy to float across the Channel, and didn't tip it over until they saw another vessel, how convenient/lucky was that?

And let's not forget that these people have paid big money to criminals to aid them in their own crime of entering a country illegally. You could say they are aiding and abetting, even instigating crime, because the people-smugglers won't do it until/unless they're offered too-good-to-refuse cash for it.
