With regard to Sanders I agree with your post,
Aegeus, where you stated,
“
...his campaign is nothing more than Obama 2.0. Empty promises of hope and change...”
I like what Sanders says, but at the same time it rings hollow to me. If he were to accomplish over 5% of the things he has promised it would be a
feat of magic. And the same holds true on the other side of the fence with Trump. And the disappointing thing about it is, between the 2 candidates
(Sanders/Trump) is where the majority of the electorate is commited. Disappointing in that the majority of the electorate is so naive and gullible as
to fall for this nonsense. People are screaming now that Obama hasn’t lived up to his campaign promises, and he didn’t promise 1/2 as much as
these 2 guys. We never learn. It reminds me of this Twilight Zone episode I saw where some guy keeps having the same nightmare over and over and over
again, and it never ends well.
I think the general election will be an all-out mudslinging affair, with only occasional discussion of issues and solutions that really count. Trump
will be non-stop trash talk, relentlessly assaulting the opponent’s personal character since he has no grasp of the issues that matter. Any research
done on the GOP side will be obtained from past and present issues of the National Enquirer, as well as other choice tabloid rags. Trump likely
already has his own personal library at home filled to the ceiling with the needed materials. That’s probably OK, though, since we don’t want to
hear about the important issues anyway; we just like to complain about them and point our fingers when nothing gets done.
There’s a lot of anger out there right now, but I think a lot of it is misplaced. Obama gets blamed for EVERYTHING, and I disagree with this
sentiment. People say, “Washington is broken” and scream about nothing getting done. Well, there’s good reason for that, but it has little to do
with Obama. It has everything to do with the “Do Nothing Congress” and the road blocks to progress they (the Republican Party) have setup to
sabotage Obama’s service in office. And they (the Republican Party) have been successful in their smear campaign to lay the blame on the other side.
They know that We the People are easy marks, and will believe anything we’re told, no matter how outrageous and contrary to common sense. It’s
because of all this that I believe Donald Trump is exactly what the GOP asked for. Unfortunately some of that anger has spilled over into the
Democratic side and it’s now willing to take desperate/drastic measures, as well.
So now, here we are; madder than Hell at a broken system, whipped into a frenzy with a lynchmob mentality, and eagerly about to make the most
irrational decision of our lives. Wow! We’re clearly a danger to ourselves and the world.
Bottom line is, in November when the dust settles, we’ll get exactly what we asked for and exactly what we deserve. Heaven help us.
I hate politics...
