In Kentucky, the year 1912: an interesting "relic" was found that had some people wondering if it were proof Prince Madoc established a Welsh community along the Ohio River well before Chris Columbus ever set foot on a ship.

"Officially it's a stone with strange markings on it," said one historian.

Apparently 20 other stones like it have been found in Kentucky, with a total of 55 stones found like it nationwide.

Some think the tablet is a list of laws written in an ancient Welsh language called Coelbren.

Of course, many are skeptical about the authenticity of the stone.

While looking for some pictures i came around this kind of interesting info.

The Brandenburg Stone is a memorial stone of national significance for the 220 thousand victims in North America of the Comet Catastrophe of 536/540 AD. The Comet already exploded near the Sun in 531. Two parts of the debris reached the Earth several years later.

The Stone also gives excellent descriptions of the Biblical Flood, the Dardanus Flood, Caesar’s Comet, and the eruption of the Krakatau Volcano.

I suspect the real explanation is quite different - and that some of the material is a "pious fraud."

The markings on the stone are not discolored enough to be a thousand years old... they look like the marks I've seen (traveler's graffiti with dates) from the 1800's.

When I saw the text (I FR YLI TIR UF PUR SIL FUR) it looked like part of a contract that included the words"..of pure silver." I can pretend it says "one fire lighter of pure silver" but that makes no sense that I know of.

Not having seen the stone, your interpretation makes the most sense to me. The language of the area is English, the formation of the lettering is crude and in a single rough line. It is highly possible that it was written by a semi-literate settler as a bill of sale.

The suggestions that it speaks of comet catastrophes, the Biblical flood & the eruption of Krakatoa is pure nonsense. There aren't enough characters on the stone even to summarize that. It's an example of how people will make up absolute BS and then publish it on the Internet as if it were fact - many believe it and that very few point out the bleedin' obvious.

... and of course, what does the inscription or the rock have to do with "Prince Madoc"? Even if the script were Welsh (it isn't) it makes no mention of anything to do with anyone specific.
