does anyone else feel like they're walking on eggshells while online?

I have a certain sense of humor and opinions which conflict with what I believe is some kind of agenda in the western world.

I feel like we are being forced to not only tolerate those we dislike but being lead towards praising and celebrating them.

Quite often while I'm jumping around forums I'll find threads where it's like people are pushing the agenda. I get tempted to weigh in but past experiences online has taught me that if i share my opinion, which to me is the truth and facts of reality based on experience, that I'll often get verbally attacked with nonsense and banned.

It's as if small communities are aiding an opposing force and allowing it to express itself while attacking all opposition. Basically people playing hero to the minority who have a history of wrecking others lives.

I feel like people are murdering my life so the most revolting of reality can flourish.

Does anyone else feel similar?
I feel like I can't speak truth about anything anymore.

No. I pretty much post what I want, within reason.

Speak truth. It won't hurt. Ok, maybe it will hurt. Maybe it will even kill you. But it's worth it.

Get in a PM exchange with me when I am on a roll and I am sure you will come away the worse for it mentally.

You shouldn't feel that way if you know your not doing or saying anything unpatriotic. Freedom of speech isn't really free because words can be very dangerous of it seems to indicate a threat of sorts. Your opinion can do damage too, especially if it's slanderous. The whole idea of people thinking the world is run like the days of the Constitution is completely foolish. In the era, the world operates as a Corporation. Every country, state, no matter. Where ever there is business, there are corporations.

It's a shame that we are own enemies.

And are not prepared for what maybe a threat to the planet. Be it asteroid or race of being.

Sad.

Mate, your biggest mistake might be that you've convinced yourself you actually possess the "truth".

We're all born, grow old well trying to make ends meat, then eventually we die... any claims of "truth" in between that reality, is in fact just pure speculation.

Precisely the reason ATS needs to bring back the ability for members to block others who are known trolls, professional thread disruptors, and the like.

The speech-chilling tactics of the statist-humanists were amusing for a short while.

Now they're just completely f# annoying, and destructive to the quality of online discourse.

The internet has gotten pretty Progressive over the last few years.

But it's good training for us to stump them in real life scenarios.

After all, we have a position. They have nothing.

Oh, wait? Not what you meant?

Yes, I know what you mean. You pretty much have to find someplace that is curated and maintained exclusively for your tribe (read ideology) these days. It isn't enough to step in and form a relationship first and then out yourself either. If you are not part of the mental/ideological tribe in a place, you'll be ousted.

People do not tolerate dissent even as they claim to value diversity.

Now in some places, I can respect that they want to keep the tribalism to a minimum so they will simply kick it out anywhere it occurs in any form. But in other places, it's not the tribalism, it's certain tribes that aren't tolerated.

Hell no. We are literally conversing with screens. There is little to no consequence for for speaking online, and no need for accountability—that is unless you attach your life's details to whatever you write, and bring your online into your offline.

Can you give any specific examples of what you are talking about?

If you are trashing gays and transgender people, claiming they are sick freaks who need to go away, or if you are saying that all Muslims are evil and need to be destroyed, or that all blacks are lazy, welfare-hogging thugs, then yeah - you're going to get some push back.

Maybe it's just me, but the internet isn't real.

By that I mean, it's not the real world it doesn't count. I don't take anything on the internet seriously and I couldn't care less what anyone has to say. And I am definitely not going to let something posted on the internet influence my mood.

You can turn it off go outside meet actual people. In real life.

It's just mind bottling to me when I read OPs like this or see someone take troll bait and get all worked up. I mean how weak minded is the world becoming?

If you are looking for an honest exchange of ideas on a topic, then yes. There are a limited number of places where you are not either speaking to an echo chamber or banned if you express an opposing view.

And there an awful lot of folks who seem to think that anyone who has a problem with the alarming number of able-bodied people on welfare is instead saying that

all blacks are lazy, welfare-hogging thugs
. Or that anyone who is critical of way gays and transgenders seem to think that instead of tolerance, they are entitled to full-blown societal acceptance and approval of everything they do or

you are trashing gays and transgender people, claiming they are sick freaks who need to go away
. Or that any who sees a pattern between most of the violent terrorism in the world and the Muslim religion and simply point this out means we think

all Muslims are evil and need to be destroyed
.

Those examples of the extreme hyperbole and over the top rhetoric employed to attempt to delegitimize and demonize all opposition to your own points of view are part of the problem.

Excellent thread OP, I agree wholeheartedly. Star and flag for ya. I feel the pain, but I also am doing my best to ignore the trolls to the best of my ability.

I'd say that it is real, in that there are real people behind every post, but I agree with you.
At the end of the day, we say 'och, well he doesn't like what I'm saying and I don't really agree with his opinion.'
And that's as far as it goes. It doesn't really make any difference if someone disagrees with you or not on the internet in the grand scheme of things.

You are not banned. Your avatar is. Your email is. It's not like they have your picture on a bulletin board somewhere.
