Niagara Falls Secrets?

Good morning!

I am visiting the Niagara Falls area soon and I am wondering if anyone knows of anything off the beaten path that I should look for. Any hidden trails, secrets, things to discover, non-tourist things. Thanks in advance!

im from buffalo, 20 minute drive to niagara falls.
if your going to the canadian side, anything on clifton hill is awesome. tons of wax museums, scare houses, bars...

american side, theres construction on goat island right now, so cant get to where you would want to go. i would suggest buying the triple play offer. you get access to the maid of the mist boat ride, access to the cave of the winds, and a few other cool places.
the aquairum is small and it sucks, dont waste your money.
if your a gambler, seneca niagara casino is great. the dinner buffet costs around 25 bucks, but probably the best buffet you will ever eat.
if you like to exercise, one park not often on an itinerary is devils hole state park. you can walk right down into the gorge, and its an awesome 2-3 hour hike to the damn. also artpark is a 10 minute drive from there. tons of hiking paths there as well that take you down into the gorge.
lewiston landing is a great place to go as well. they have the jet boat tours there, and an awesome restaurant called the silo that was on diners drive ins and dives with guy fieri. i reccomend the haystack sandwich... its like 13 dollars, but its the only place in the world to get one.
they niagara falls outlet mall has tons of shoppign opportunities. tons of outlets, cheap ... id check that out.
and if your into fishing, world class fishing all around you! laketrout, steelhead trout, king salmon, muskellunge, best small mouth bass in the world in buffalo... slowly becoming a huge part of tourism.

Well IF you're into hiking... go down into the gorge...

Theres lots of trails... the whirl pool...

And at the bottom of one of the stair cases that go down into the gorge theres an indian head carved into the side of the cliff...

American side has a nice park.
Canadian side has casinos and shopping.

I live in Lockport. As long as you're in the area come and checkout the Lockport caves. Ghost hunters was here back a while ago and saw some cool things here. There are also the old locks from the Erie Canal.(pretty much in my backyard). Lots of great places to eat all over Western New York.

You could also go to Buffalo and check out The Anchor Bar, It's the place where chicken wings originated. The wings are awesome. Another place I can recommend would be Olcott, a small village on Lake Ontario. There is a beautiful park in town and an antique carousel. On a clear day you can see Toronto across the lake. Mariners Landing is across the street from the park and has really good food, you can even dine outside if you like.

There are so many cool places to go in WNY. Many folks come here and miss most of them. If you go to Artpark, be sure to check out Lewiston. It's a very cool town. The Silo does have great food.

Thanks for all of the replies and information. We had a great time!

We did just about all of the tours including Journey Under the Falls, White Water Walk, Horn-blower. We spent a good amount of time on Victoria Avenue, we did eat at Brasa (yum!). We were only there for four days for our anniversary so we didn't really leave the general Niagara area. We went on the fireworks cruise and that was a lot of fun. The wax museums were very cool The only place I sort of got a strange feeling was during Journey Under the Falls, when you walk down the first porthole and there is another room to the left (if you're facing the cascade). It was blocked off but you could see inside. I didn't like being in that area, just a general bad feeling. Of course that could have been from the massive amount of energy in the air as a result of being under / behind the falls. Anyway... we had a good time, it's just beautiful there!

There is a Brazilian steak house that we go to in our area sometimes and we love it. But Brasa was above and beyond anything I expected!

Sorry that I saw this late. Taking a ride on the Maid of the Mist is a pretty awesome (in the real meaning of the word) experience and quite reasonably priced. Nuthin like taking a shower in Lake Erie! Fort Niagara on the US side is a really well done historical site (which just happens to factor into some personal research I''ve been conducting). On the Canadian side? The Butterfly Conservatory is a whole lot more interesting than I had expected. All in all, I'm proposing nothing but time well wasted.
