Texas police tell little girl she is in "big trouble" for buying school meal with $2 bill.

boingboing.net...

Alert administrators at a Houston, Texas, public school called police when a 13-year-old student tried to use a $2 bill to buy chicken nuggets from the cafeteria. An officer went to the school office where the girl was being held, scaring the hell out of her and calling her grandmother with dire warnings about federal counterfeiting crimes being committed.

This is quite possibly the dumbest, most absurd use of police resources I have heard about. Unless this $2 bill was attached to a gun or a bomb, they are complete morons all around. The school, the police, the cafeteria all owe this girl a huge apology and free lunch for the rest of her life. Imagine being humiliated like that. Man this ticks me off. I wish I was there, good thing I am not though, because I am not sure who I would be angrier at.

seems like an honest mistake from the police.
$2 bills are rare arent they?
and telling a girl she's in 'big trouble' is hardly gonna scarr her for life.

This is crazy, last week I went to buy gas. I told the girl $40.00 on pump 7. I paid with the old hundred bill.

The girl took my money and called the police. Said I was paying with fake money.
The cop laughed at her.
She was 18 years old and thought my bill was fake, she did not know what a old hundred looked like. Crazy, the good part was the cop was on my side.

Greetings-

As a medically retired cop from Ca. who has been outspoken re: the horse manure arrests, the beating of unarmed alleged suspects, the beating of handcuffed alleged crooks, the unwarranted shootings.

This is UTTER HORSE Sh!t and the whole administration that would allow anything close to this should be fired post haste.
I guess this couldn't have been handled by reaching into the pocket and switching it out for 2 singles. case-Closed.

Now the 'good cops' (they are still out there, believe it or not..) once again have to shake their heads or answer the inane questions that will arise.. But because Dick Badgeheavy feels the weight of the tin, turns a 13 y.o. into a "crook"..

The fact that the bank had to tell Him the bill was 'legal tender' just goes to show You this cop is dumber than Owl snip.

If it was a $3.00 bill then "Maybe" but there are folks that collect $2.00 bills so I guess if it was up to this turd they'd be on "Death Row" Remember this is Texas where a guy is doing 30 years for 2 joints..

If I could get access to that Departments records I'd audit this turd's arrests.. Imagine how many folks He has ALREADY arrested and the case never went to court because the poor alleged crook couldn't afford a real attorney...

PATHETIC and I'd say this right to this guy's face..

I'd also opine that he got beat up in High School and has a vendetta..

I'll also be adding a trailer for the movie "American Violet" which took place in Texas.. Please watch the trailer.

Pretty funny. A clerk at the gas station hasn't been trained to identify counterfeit? So if she thinks it looks like 'funny money', she just calls the cops. I bet she doesn't know where he emergency pump shut off switch is either.

We're living in a dangerous world.

Unbeleivable . How many school administrators don't have access (or the will) to do a google search on their 'office computer'…

2 dollar bill

And not only, pick up the phone instead, summon the pohlice, detain her, intimidate the suspect about 'counterfeiting'.

Obama's picture is on the food stamps, not the money.

Yeah, but the writing would be in Arabic and then all that fecal matter hitting the fan...

I was thinking Richard Simmons would be a better fit, or better yet "WoMAN of the year" Caitlyn Jenner nee: Bruce. This would get more people arguing...

Or maybe have an artist's rendition of different features and who ever looks the closest to the picture is President??

People are such ass hats. Seriously. And a lot of the younger generation (mine included) do not have an up to date understanding of how currency works. I once worked with a girl who tried to refuse a guy a purchase by using a very old 5$ bill. Luckily my grandparents kept older money in a scrap book that I used to thumb through as a child so I kindly apologized for her and let him make his purchase then explained to her that if she had a question about it, she could always use the counterfeit pen we had for 100$ (apparently people think they only work on one hundred dollar bills. sigh)

Anyway, my example is mild compared to this one. These administrators should be severely reprimanded for several reasons.

1) Just being idiots all around.
2) For not having the patience to look up if, in fact, it was real before jumping to conclusions.
3) For poorly handling the situation as a whole.

It would have been very easy to get the little girl's name, thank her for her money, check later and save everyone the humiliation. IF you lost 2 dollars is it really THAT big of a deal....

Side note, if it was counterfeit she clearly didn't make this herself so why punish her?!?!?! This is absurd. She is a little girl. Also if her mother used counterfeits how do you know that SHE even knew. It could have been an honest mistake from a gas station attendant or she found it on the street. It isn't 10000000s of dollars. It's two.

Some people need their priorities adjusted.

Well, thank You. I was proud to retire with 33 commendations and ZERO citizen complaints. I also never lost a case in Court and was friendly with Defense Attorneys and handled a lot of cases in the hallway with the approval of the D.A. I'd also take the prisoners that were stuck for hours in the "holding cells" who hadn't eaten for hours through either the TacoBell or BurgerKing. This would make their booking quicker and the jail personnel also enjoyed the cooperation. I'd call ahead and see if they could bail out and give them a ride back to the City instead of having them hang around the jail in another city, this way they wouldn't have to 'dress out' and the guards could handle the Ones who needed attention.

Many times, the 'Drunk in Public' (647f p.c.) I'd let go out the back in the a.m. instead of booking them to save the $155 "Booking Fee" Any warrant that I could release at the P.D. I did.

You'd be surprised at how many get arrested for horse manure type crap, many times because they had some kind of conflict w/the officer and solve the problem they'd be arrested for something inane..

Many forget that a ton of folks NEVER have any contact with the Police and to berate an impressionable 13 y.o. girl, now what happens down the road if She is a victim of an assault or something You think She'll feel comfortable?

There once was or still is a saying "This week's victim is next week's suspect.." But a 2 min. conversation One could deduce She wasn't trying to 'slip the queer' and no INTENT to defraud...

I once got a guy for counterfeiting. He was counterfeiting $1.00 bills. I HAD to book Him under the counterfeiting statute because "Stupidity" isn't against the law, if it were, this cop would be guilty of same...

But "Thank You" for the compliment and I do miss the J O B every day..

I worked the Hood and only had to fight Once, a Samoan male who hadn't slept in 2 days on methamphetamine. He apologized at the hospital and wrote Me a letter from Prison. He told Me He didn't like the female officer shaking the O.C. (oleoresin capsicum) and twirling Her baton while approaching Him. Worked for Me so I booked Him on the warrants and She had to do the assault (I agreed with Him) It was a pit bull at a meth lab that broke My back..

For My troubles, I now get $1207/month deducted from My retirement for "Affordable Healthcare"

I started to learn the law from police officers who trump up things. As time passed... I learned I could just fight. So... I did.
I fought cops 8 times. Lost every time. Never went to jail. Kicks, punches, wrestling... it was all to my fairness policy. If you can't serve me... And protect me... But think you can arrest me. You'll have to fight me!

My only problem in this city is people who start fights then cry victim when you fight them.

Many fights I have had. But I learned to tolerate victims and fights cops instead.
