NEWS: Christ-like Shell to Go On Sale

A Swiss man has announced plans to sell an oyster shell bearing a Jesus-like image. Matteo Brandi, who found the shell, hopes to match the success of a Florida woman who sold her "Virgin Many" piece of toast for $28,000 last November. Mr. Brandi, a devout Catholic, had kept the shell on top of his stereo, but only realized that it might be valuable after hearing the story about the piece of toast.



I hadn't heard the "Virgin Mary toast" story before, and I guess this is all just a modern version of the Shroud of Turin or any of the other "image" artifacts that have appeared over the years.

Is it likely to be purchased by a religious person, or by someone who collects oddities? How many people actually believe that there's something divine about such artifacts? (I can't see it, myself...) And for someone who does believe, what is the basis for such belief?

I have to give Mr. Brandi some credit: the resemblance to Jesus is not something that I would have noticed had I been the one eating the oyster. Good luck to him!

The Virgin Mary toast was a riot. If you looked at it right it could appear to be the outline of a person's head. Of course to these people it has to be the Virgin Mary and not just some lady. I think its sad that some people have so little hope in life that they have to cling to toast.

The taost and other items were purchased by a casino of all things. No doubt they are doing it for publicity and may have this museum of the weird planned for a future date

I'm with Fred on this. I think it was a brilliant move on the part of the casino to buy the virgin mary toast and the ghost cane, both for under $100,000. Where else can you get publicity across the nation in all forms of media for that price? I mean a superbowl ad cost what now, over a million for 30 seconds? Anyone who buys it for any reason other than publicity is insane in my opinion.
