Leaving an emotional scarred child and a body.

If we accept is as self inflicted does that mean we can continue to accept sloppy safety practices?

I do not thing so. The pace is set for 212 accidental shooting caused by children playing with guns. If you neibours child accident killed your child would you accept it as" self inflicted"?

I think not.

False argument, since I was referring to the person who wrongly left the gun where a child could get it being shot.

Keeping a gun safe from children is not hard at all. A gun safe, a lock box or a locked closet or room. It's not rocket science, anymore than keeping medicine safely away from children.

Teaching a child safety with guns is like teaching them anything else. I grew up with guns and parents who took the time and even sent me through training with guns at a young age.

There is no answer to how to make sure that all parents are responsible parents, that pay attention, in a free society.

Toddlers however, are not old enough to learn safety and use and it would be an act of total incompetence to not keep any weapons locked up safely at all times around a toddler. If they can't lay their hands on a gun, there can be no accident or tragedy. It really is that simple; you have a toddler in the house, you keep guns and any other dangerous item locked up.

I can't imagine how completely irresponsible a person would have to be to do otherwise, but apparently there are parents who don't care enough to do so. I've honestly never seen a person leave loaded weapons around where a toddler could lay their hands on them. People that stupid must be rare I'm sure.

Excuse me?

Care to explain that little diatribe?

My weapons are perfectly safe, so too, are any children in my life. Before you go tossing accusations around, I suggest you have something resembling proof.

Not sure what set you off, but this discussion is now over.

I agree that kids are smart and great mimic 's.

I would never try to make a kid stupid.

I' ll assume from you example that you are okay with the idea of safe storage. Is that fair?

To tell you the truth, all those years ago when there were 'toddlers' in the house, I never had really 'safe storage', as is recognized by those in the know, today.
Rather than make the home kid proof, I encouraged the kids to be mindful and learn the safe handling of everything around.
When they were old enough to physically shoot, they learned safety.
If the firearms are as secure in the home as people like to think, what is the point of a firearm in the home at all?
We gonna ask the invading parasites to have a cup of tea while we try to remember that password that the kids would NEVER remember, and then remember the password to the inner safe...?
The necessary tradeoffs make it a losing game to play.

So your very bright child gets through all the safety stuff and accident kills you. We will mourn your death as truly trajic because you DID make the effort.

There is no such thing as a premature death.
There are no 'accidents'.

"The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly." --Richard Bach

It's truly senseless though that mom from the orginal post could have prevented the accident by simply putting the gun on the front seat. It's not much but the accident would have been avoided.

Tell me...Just because "your" weapons are safe from children in your life , does that mean all children are safe from weapons ?

I applaud you for having responsibility with both your weapons and children.

How many people in the U .S do not share your safety concerns ?...In my mind this is where the issue lies.

Thats a pretty retarded comment, if we banned toddlers there would be no need for guns as people would no longer exist. perhaps we should just ban stupid people.

ETA...there really is nothing funny about toddlers killing people with guns, unless of course you are a little unhinged

Now how do you suppose I'm supposed to answer that question?

I don't know, obviously. I can only take care of my own life, not others lives...nor am I about to try.
