So here I am, 9 or so years down the line from becoming a member here, and something in my life has evolved.

It has evolved because of posting on here. Posting comes with a responsibility for what we all write and present to the big wide world when we hit the big (little) "post" button.

Over time, I've had my fair share of deleted replies and embarrasing moments as most of us probably have. A quick edit sometimes just won't do and the feeling is left inside us. They were due to not taking the time to read, re-read and consider in the big scheme of things what should be said and what could be said. After all, the answers we seek lie in the questions we ask aren't they?

This spin-off and it's evolution has led me to a point that has spilled over into my emailing habits, especially those official and important ones to confront special issues.

For that, I am incredibly grateful to ATS and all who visit here.

I don't post much at the moment due to time considerations having just moved house and having so much work to do but recent events have been aided with the Wisdom of my ATS posting philosophy now used when emailing officialdom...

Read, write, re-read, edit, add, delete, read, etc etc etc. I then go and have a cup of tea and return to do the same again until completely satisfied I have said everything necessary, not said anything I shouldn't, remained polite, been clear and as simple as possible, and finally, been in control of the message with my head and not my emotions.

It works.

Thanks.

Not just you Nerbot. This site has definitely changed the way I speak, post, write letters, etc. I had to up my vocabulary to keep up. Not that I was lacking...I'm well read, educated...but in my life, social circle, there just wasn't a need in everyday conversation to "edit" anything. Somewhere over the course of my years here, a filter evolved in my brain methinks. Eliminating a lot of old habits that didn't serve me well in posting style and gave people the wrong idea of how I really wanted to be. I try to post now with more professionalism, less personal emotion...and above all, to be a woman of few words. I prefer to keep posts short, sweet, and to the point.

Good thread OP - I hadn't thought much about how ATS has changed my writing/perspective on things, but you bring up a great point. Posting here brings with it a level of responsibility and each post is an extension of our thoughts/beliefs so it's important to put in the necessary level of thought/time and not let your emotions drive you to post something you'll later regret.

Thanks for sharing!

I've always appreciated reading your posts.

The most important things don't come with words, but if we must, why not do it well.

cheers
