Andrew Jackson, 1833, had the spring source changed, but the Architects of DC and subsequent Mayor(s) would have commissioned the DC Sewerage.
French and German scientists wrote about the dangers of Typhoid Fever and sources during the mid 1800s. Apparently Typhoid Fever bacteria, salmonella
typhus, was a major sanitation issue worldwide for roughly 175 years.
Crazy that Jackson's desire to have ample spring water in 1833 in part led to killing 3 Presidents, if the theory is accurate!
