Washington (CNN)A bipartisan bill to let families victimized by the 9/11 terrorist attacks sue Saudi Arabia ran into sharp setbacks Monday, as the White House threatened a veto and a GOP senator privately sought to block the measure.

The move comes as presidential candidates from both parties are seizing on the legislation to score points with New York voters ahead of Tuesday's critical primary there.
And it has pit the likely next Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer of New York, squarely against the Obama administration.
White House threatens to veto 9/11 lawsuit bill

Do you need any more proof that the US federal government is not on the side of the ordinary person? I find the following example to be even more unbelievable (and important):

America: A Land Where Justice Is Absent

Paul Craig Roberts

America’s First Black President is a traitor to his race and also to justice.

Obama has permitted the corrupt US Department of Justice (sic), over which he wields authority, to overturn the ruling of a US Federal Court of Appeals that prisoners sentenced illegally to longer terms than the law permits must be released once the legal portion of their sentence is served. The DOJ, devoid of all integrity, compassion, and sense of justice, said that “finality” of conviction was more important than justice. Indeed, the US Justice (sic) Department’s motto is: “Justice? We don’t need no stinkin’ justice!”

Alec Karakatsanis, a civil rights attorney and co-founder of Equal Justice Under Law, tells the story here: President Obama’s Department of Injustice

See also here: Obama's DOJ Perpetrates Injustice for Tens of Thousands of Prisoners

The concept of “finality” was an invention of a harebrained Republican conservative academic lionized by the Republican Federalist Society. In years past conservatives believed—indeed, still do—that the criminal justice system coddles criminals by allowing too many appeals against their unlawful convictions. The appeals were granted by judges who thought that the system was supposed to serve justice, but conservatives demonized justice as something that enabled criminals. A succession of Republican presidents turned the US Supreme Court into an organization that only serves the interests of private corporations. Justice is nowhere in the picture.
America: A Land Where Justice Is Absent — Paul Craig Roberts

What's left? If every U.S. citizen became a State Citizen then the US federal government would cease to exist. Even among the "radicals" on this forum that concept has almost no traction so it's never going to happen.

Oh, the Great Republican Double Cross.

Yeah. That thing.

So we climb in bed with Saudi officials, hide the info during the investigation, then "leak it" now to create uproar.

To me this is proof that our government are dirty double crossing bastards who are waiting to sell us all out again, too.

ETA: forgot....DRILL BABY DRILL!!!!

Where is the proof that the Saudi Government was involved though.

We can disagree with their behaviour on many scales until we're blue in the face...

But I've yet to see proof.

I've also yet to see those redacted pages so it may still come...
But this just sounds stupid to me.

For now.

Hillary recently made headlines from her desire to sue gun manufacturers for gun crimes.

Now we see legislation to sue Saudi Arabia for crimes committed by a few citizens of that nation?

If there is proof that Saudi was behind the attacks, then it is an act of war.

If they weren't behind the attacks, then this is just as applicable as Hillary's attempt.

My 2 cents.

Hi, non-American here. I am very confused about the thread. I thought it was about the bill to allow citizens to sue Saudi Arabia, but then it is talking about the DOJ. At the end it seems to be talking about something else.

Are you saying that the US citizenry should essentially dissolve the USA and become a consortium of state-nations?

I truly am a bit lost about the goal because of my ignorance of US politics.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

The US of A Inc., aka "the government" is a for profit corp., as is all of their sub-corps such as the IRS, DHS, CIA, FBI.

When you begin to understand this and research the whens and whys, the truth is mindblowing and you begin at enraged and end at being numb and realize every word is propaganda.

The truth is out there.

Well, how would that even work? I mean so many things are intertwined right? What about the military? How would those bases work? Who would have control over them?

Remember when the Soviet Union split? That was one hell of a ****storm for a while, in the case of the US you could multiply that by like (insert any arbitrary but very big number here).

Is that even considered an option, splitting the US?

No, that's why it won't happen.

But its kind of a Texas thing to want to leave the US. We joined by Treaty when Uncle Sam was in his 20's and still a decent guy. Now he's a fat, drunk, letch that is grotesque enough to make the regular joe's pine for the days of our great grandfathers.

That's not a testament to our insanity. Its a testament to theirs.

As far as the Saudi thing. What more proof do people need? Seriously. The US government flew the Saudis back home after 9/11 you can bet your ass they wont let us sue them. Why?

They are literally protecting the perpetrators. Openly now, even.

Also, i think Colorado would be more than down to become its own nation state. Weve got plenty military bases here and less senseless laws. Not to mention a nice revenue generator or two.

...and a well spent two cents.

A disturbing, not to mention wrong-headed, presidence.

As above, sue the families of the Saudi's involved? OK, I can see that... For all the good it'll do.

If there is proof that Saudi was behind the attacks, then it is an act of war.

Certainly would be.

If they weren't behind the attacks, then this is just as applicable as Hillary's attempt.

Yep.

I make no secret of my disdain towards the Sauds. But this is seeking to punish the lot for the actions of a few, unless information surfaces about wide scale Saudi involvement in the plot. Now, such involvement from factions within the govt. of Saudi Arabia wouldn't surprise me in the slightest...then the gloves should come off in the form of a declaration of war, not a law suit.

MHO.

Obama told families victimized by 9/11 he was going to release those 28 classified pages! Now he's reneging on his promise! Obama has shown his true self time and time again. He doesn't stand behind what he says.

I find it criminal that Bush classified these 28 pages dealing with the financing of 9/11 by the Saudis. I also find it criminal that a sitting president sat on these classified pages when he took office and never released them! This clearly shows the official story surrounding 9/11 isn't what it seems. No evidence nor documents surrounding 9/11 should be hidden from the eyes of the American people. The people of this country and the families who have been victimized by the 9/11 attacks deserve and have every right to view all evidence and information surrounding 9/11. This should also include all classified government and surrounding business security video tapes capturing the attack on the Pentagon.

The Saudis know those 28 classified pages will directly tie them into the attacks on 9/11. The U.S. doesn't need a friend or ally like the Saudis who financed an attack on our soil and who's human rights record is atrocious! The US only allied with the Saudis due to their oil connections. That certainly proved itself with the Bush's cozy relationship with the royal family. There was a no fly command put into place on 9/11, yet Bush allowed Saudis to fly home. Connect that with the 28 classified papers related to the Sauidi's financing 9/11 and it sure smells like a government cover-up!

Screw Saudi Arabia. They need us more than we need them. Shame on Obama and our government as a whole who knew about these papers and never released them to the people of the United States! Everyone should take notice of those congressional members who vote against releasing those papers and make sure you vote them out of office! This is treason plain and simple.

They( US Gov) are probably worried that the truth will come out, that the Saudis and US Gov worked together to get this done, in ordfr to have a reason to Attack Sadaam, and other countries. The US gov and Saudis work together. The latest is an attack against Russia via low fixed oil prices to topple Putin and financially ruin Russia. Low oil cost in not done to help you out at the pump. There is always a motive, and it has to do with power and money. How about the US obamacare? Who does that benefit? You? No way! My premiums went up, and coverage went down. It benefits the bankers that own the insurance companies. Now everyone must pay, and pay big, or be fined at tax time. Its all about money and always has been. The people who died on 9-11, and the property loss, had far lesser value of what was to be gained in the middle east. Who was the king that Obama bowed low to the ground before? Remember? Americans dont bow to any other human. We loathe that behavior

This. Read this again.

It floors me how many people don't understand any of these individual events, let alone how they fit together. Gas always gets cheap around elections- and my personal thoughts on that are this...
The next president is irrelevant, their actions are already planned out for them- and the plans are already in motion by screwing with the worlds most valuable industry.
This time around, it looks like TPTB are looking to put the hurt on Russia- and even a full year before elections they had already started hurting them where it counts... right in the wallet, by manipulating oil prices. Doesn't matter who wins this so called election, we've got a conflict with Russia to look forward to.

Putin always has that smirk on his face, though. He already knows what's coming, and probably has a plan in place to stick it to us.
The US- too big to fail, just like our banks.

Of course the white house would veto such a bill as the white house is implicated in the 9/11 events. There has already been a heap of political pressure to treat any court cases involving 9/11 with prejudice. To crack open this dam will very likely release the whole can of worms.

On a sidetrack, does anyone know what happened to Dick Cheney to mold him into such a person?

The joint is a fiefdom....if the royal family was involved in the financial backing of these guys....
Then id say the government is definitely suable....
If the lawsuit is allowed to go forward the Saudis threaten to cash their trillions of treasury notes...
If they did that the whole system would implode immediately....no more bail outs or buy outs....it would be world pandemonium with decades afterward trying to figure out who owes who without a reset and new currency....
Im betting SDRs will be tried.....(special drawing rights=world currency)
The plot is thickeneing and the days are numbered to a super 9/11 that will crash the world....
Still gotta keep the war threats coming too.....
Keep the plebes on their knees.....
And work to drain the value of the world economy off into a black hole only the banksters can access...
